ROCK: Doris Joanne (Johns) of Exeter

Doris passed away unexpectedly at her home in Exeter on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at the age of 81. Beloved wife of the late Earl Rock (2003). Cherished friend of Bob Robinson. Loving sister of Margaret Miller and sister-in-law of Warren and Joanne Rock. Aunt Dory will be missed by her many nieces and nephews. Fondly remembered by the Robinson family. Doris loved to be around people, entertaining and ensuring everyone was having a good time. She was a wonderful host and loved to cook for friends and family and of course enjoyed a game of cards. Her smile and sense of humour will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to cross her path.

Visitation will be held at Haskett Funeral Home, 456 Main Street, EXETER on Saturday, September 20th from 9:30 โ€“ 10:30 AM, where Dorisโ€™ funeral service will be held at 11 AM. Interment St. Peterโ€™s Lutheran Cemetery, Brodhagen.

I grew up in the same rural neighbourhood as the Johns family and remember visiting them with my parents. Doris was always so nice to my sisters and I even though we were a little younger. My sister and I had a lovely lunch with Doris and Marg a few years ago and Doris had cooked a great lunch for the four of us. I have good memories of childhood visits and visiting as an adult with Doris and know that I will miss her smiles. I extend my sympathy to her sister Marg and to her many nieces and nephews and friends.

So sorry to hear about Doryโ€™s passing. She was the first person we met when we moved to Exeter over 15 years ago. She was our dear neighbour who always invited us to dinner or just sit on our back deck to chat. She was a fantastic next door neighbour who volunteered to check on our condo while we were in Florida. She loved the monthly dinner card parties with our friends. We always knew we could count on each other, especially when she was banging on our door when she had a fire. Peter ran in to get her out and tried to put the fire out until the firemen got here. It was really scary for all of us. I would ask her for a recipe and instead of giving me the recipe, she would just make it herself and bring it over. We will miss her.

To the Rock, Johns, Miller and Robinson families and to all the residents (friends) of the Crossing Apartment where Dori lived. Dori always had something to say to us at Thursday morning coffee, our Socials and at happy hour which always made us laugh. She was always happy helping anybody with meals when they were sick or for any other reason. She looked forward to her dear friend Bob coming for meals as well, always sending something home for Bob to eat until the next time. Doris took care of as many as she could. We your friends at the apartment, are still talking of your departure so quickly.
Rest in pease, Dori until we meet again.

I’m so sorry to hear of Dory’s passing. I had the pleasure of working with Dori at the pharmacy but also would see her when she worked for tasty nu bakery in Seaforth years ago. For the last 8 or 9 years I have baked her dozens of shortbread at Christmas, that she would share with Bob and her friends. I will miss her phone calls. Doris made the world a better place and she will be missed by so many. Condolences to all that had the pleasure of knowing her.
    God Bless

Marg and family, Doris will be missed. She always lit up a room, with her presence, wit and even pranks. It was great working with her, we never knew what shenanigans she would get up to, but she would always keep us on our toes to keep up with her. She was a fantastic lady that was always willing to help everyone and anyone. I am honoured to call her friend.
