Peacefully, at home in Whalen Corners on Thursday, March 17, 2011 Wilhelmus (Willem/Bill) Johannes Damen Sr. passed away with his loving family by his side. Born in Didam, The Netherlands on the 22nd of December 1913. He was the son of the late Johannes Damen and Maria Helena Menting. Predeceased by his wife Marie Banning (1970) and dear friend Annie Schoenmakers (1999). Dear father of Anne Van Sas (John), John Damen (Sadie), Bert Damen (Jeannine), Tony Damen (Carole), Bill Damen Jr. (Judy), Harry Damen (Sheila) and Mary Lee (Doug). Dear Grandfather of Maria Davis (Denis), Frank Van Sas (Chas), Cathy O’Neil (Hiram), Michael Damen (Marci), Paul Damen (Amanda), Brian Damen (Janet), Janelle Damen Cowl (Tim), Robert Damen (Paula), Daphne Damen (Rob), Rosemary Damen, Melissa Ankers (Mike), David Damen (Michelle), Amy Murphy (Kyle), Katie Damen, Sharon Damen, Diane Damen (Adam), Jennifer Dobinson (Ed), Karen Lee, Andrea Lee (Bob), Crystal Denison (Eric). Beloved Opa to Lilly O’Neil, Max & Sam Damen, Joshua & Paige Damen, Trent Cowl, Cole & Meghan Damen, Connor & Rhett Womack. Damen, Griffin & Hudson Murphy, Claire & Addison Ankers, Claudia & Mallory Damen, Kyle, Eric & Jack Dobinson, Kayley, Ava & Margaret Denison. Survived by sister Marie Jansen of Alisa Craig. Predeceased by his grandson Ron Damen (1995), brothers Arnoldus, Gerardus, Hendrikus & Johannes and sisters Helena, Christina, Berendina and Wilhelmina.
Friends may call at the Haskett Funeral Home, 223 Main Street, Lucan for Parish Prayers on Sunday at 1:30 pm. Visitation beings Sunday at 2 pm until 4 pm and continues 7-9 pm. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Church, Lucan on Monday, March 21st at 11 AM with Father Dariusz Lewandowski celebrant. Interment St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Lucan.
As an expression of sympathy, donations can be made to South Huron Hospital Foundation or VON Palliative Care Program.
