TIEDEMAN: Barbara Joyce (McDonald) of Exeter

January 6, 2025 By Haskett Funeral Home 190 Condolences

TIEDEMAN: Barbara Joyce (McDonald) of Exeter

Passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side at South Huron Hospital, Exeter on Sunday, January 5, 2025 at the age of 81. Beloved wife of Walter Tiedeman for 61 and a half years. Cherished mother of Kelly and Dave Holtzmann and Mike Tiedeman. Adored grandmother of Kelsey and Brett Crerar and Mackenzie Holtzmann and great-grandmother of Colby, and Hudson. Dear sister and sister-in-law of Bob and Joyce McDonald, Susan Decker-Reidhead and Bill Reidhead, Wanda McCreight, Carolyn and Thomas Thomaes, and Shelia Tiedeman. Fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her brothers-in-law Jim McCreight, Don Tiedeman, and Rick Tiedeman, and her sister-in-law Dorothy Baker.

Barb was a lifelong resident of Exeter and a cherished member of the community whose friendly presence will be deeply missed. She dedicated much of her time to serving others through her involvement with the Exeter United Church, Rebekah Lodge #67, and the Exeter United Church Womenโ€™s League. Throughout her career, Barb cared for children as a babysitter and later brought warmth and kindness to patients during her 17 years at Dr. Readโ€™s office. Barb had a special love for Christmas, but her greatest joy was her family, who meant the world to her.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the nurses and staff at South Huron Hospital for the exceptional care and compassion provided to Barb and her family during their stay.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Haskett Funeral Home, 456 Main Street South, EXETER on Friday, January 10, 2025, from 1 to 4 PM, with words beginning at 2 PM. Cremation has taken place. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date.

Donations to Exeter United Church or South Huron Hospital Foundation in Barbโ€™s memory would be appreciated by the family.

Our most sincere condolences to the Tiedeman and McDonald families. Our hearts are full of sadness for your loss. Barbara was a lovely person and a true friend. She was a great babysitter for our Elizabeth. We spent many happy times together in UCW , making meat pies and as โ€œSistersโ€ in Rebekahs. Bob remembers joining the Rebekah lodge with her. She was most dedicated to all her volunteering and efficient as well. Bob and I enjoyed her help in preparing for the euchre parties and Waltโ€™s assistance was appreciated. We were thankful for Barb and Waltโ€™s visits when Bob lost some of his mobility. We are going to miss her in so many ways. You are in our thoughts and prayers. The world is a better place because she was here.

Walt, Kelly & Dave and family,

My sincere condolences on Barbโ€™s passing. Great memories of Barb at the Molting Hawks games and tournaments as well as the annual horseshoe tournaments at our house. As a kid it was fun watching the adults acting like big kids and Barb was usually in the middle of it. My first memory of Barb was at Dr Readโ€™s office when Mom would bring us in for a checkup. Barb talked to us like grown ups even if we were quiet and shy and didnโ€™t say much. I will always remember her kindness and her laugh. She will be greatly missed.

    Walt & Family
We were heartbroken to hear of Barb’s passing. We have many fond memories of playing cards and having dinners with her and a group of friends. She was usually outside working on her gardens when we walked by but always stopped to have a chat. We will miss her.
