SMITS: Francina “Sien” Hendrica (Martens)

SMITS:  Peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family, at the South Huron Hospital, Exeter, on Thursday, April 15, 2021, Francina “Sien” Hendrica (Martens) Smits of Grand Bend, age 92.  Beloved wife of 67 years to the late Thomas “Tom” Henricus Smits (Nov. 22, 2020).  Loving mother and mother-in-law of John and Rita Smits of Grand Bend, the late Harry (2013) and Connie Smits and her partner Barry of Sarnia, Peter Smits (1958), Pete and Pat Smits of Lambton Shores, Margaret and Gregg Ennett of Arnprior, Joanne and Andrew Clark of Lambton Shores.  Cherished Oma of her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and their families.  Dear sister and sister-in-law of (Johan and Miet Martens), (Marinus and Truus Martens), (R.C. Sister Evarista Martens “Johanna”), (Wim Martens), (Jan Martens), (Martin and Magdalena and Anastasia Martens), (Tony and Martha Martens), Marius and Ria Martens of London, (Marietje and Jan Guns), (Arnold) Anne Martens of Exeter, (Jon and Jo Smits), Leen and Schack Van de Wijdeven of Holland.  Sien will be remembered by her many nieces, nephews and their families.  Predeceased by her parents Henricus and Martina (Raaymakers) Martens.  The Smits Family will receive Friends and Family who wish to pay their respects for a Drive-By Visitation at the T. Harry Hoffman & Sons Funeral Home, Dashwood, on Friday, April 16, 2021, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. A Private Family Funeral Mass will take place on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church, Grand Bend.  Interment Pinery Cemetery, Grand Bend.  Sien was a long time member of the Immaculate Heart CWL.  For those wishing to view the recorded service, please click this link https://youtu.be/xn1QYMfaITk. If desired, memorial donations (payable directly) to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.

    Sincere condolences to the entire Smits and Martens family with the passing of Sien. It is hard to say goodbye to a parent no matter what age.
    We always enjoyed visiting with both Sien and Tom, special for coffee after church on Saturday nights. They will be missed.

    So sorry to hear about the passing of Sien. She truly was a beautiful woman. I have many fond memories of Sien growing up. Her generous hospitality and friendly smile always made me feel welcome. She will be sadly missed by many.

Memorial Tree

Each year we hold a tree dedication ceremony at Morrison Dam in Exeter. We purchase a tree to be planted in memory of the lives lost from the previous year.

Our Service Coverage Area

Service AreaWe are always willing to go where called upon but this image shows a visual of the communities that our included in our initial transportation fee. We offer a 40km radius from any of our 5 locations (Arva (London), Exeter, Lucan, Seaforth, and Zurich). Any mileage beyond the included 40km will be charged a rate of $2.50/km (one way travel only).

Potential Additional Transportation Fees

$150 - If transport requires more than one person, additional fee charged per person required
$150 - If transport occurs outside Mon-Fri, 9-5 business hours
