SMITH: Edmund “Ed” Roy of Seaforth

February 10, 2025 By Haskett Funeral Homes 22 Condolences

SMITH: Edmund “Ed” Roy of Seaforth

Known to his family and friends as Eddie, he was a man with a big, kind heart that he shared with everyone. He was loved and respected by all who knew him. Ed peacefully left us on February 8, 2025.

Ed is survived by his loving wife Christine, his step-daughters Sherry (Mike), Patricia, and Lorrie, his mother-in-law Eileen, his sisters Joanne, Marie (Don), brother Norman (Juana) and sisters-in- law Mary Lynne, Marjorie, Cathy (Dave), Wendy (Charlie) and Susan. Ed leaves behind 11 grandchildren; Richard (Abi), Brayden, Josh (Jessica), Lily, William, Tyler, Andrew (Myah) Alex, Sara, Owen, and Jaxon; as well as 3 great grandchildren, Rylan, Auden, and Hudson. Ed will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Ed is now reunited with his son Trevor, brothers Alan, Ronald, Kenny, Robert and sisters-in-law Norma and Sally, and brother-in-law Steve. His departure leaves an unfillable void in our lives, yet there is comfort in the memories that were created.

Ed was born to Russell Edmund and Mary Katherine on August 5th, 1943 and raised on the family farm. Ed had a long and successful career in sales for the P.L. Robertson company for 43 years until he retired.

Ed had many hobbies and interests including working in his woodpile, playing cards and travelling with family. Ed’s garden was his pride and joy; growing potatoes, tomatoes, yellow beans and the most beautiful gladioli you have ever seen.

Ed had a love of sports, whether it was playing, coaching or watching on TV. He was an avid golfer and fisherman, life long Maple Leafs Fan and in recent years joined a shuffle board league.

A special thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff of Seaforth Community Hospital for their support, compassion and care of Ed.

Instead of flowers, those wishing to honour Ed’s memory may contribute to the Canadian Cancer Society.  Your donations will serve as a testament to Ed’s life, reflecting his impact on those who were privileged to have known him.

Visitation will he held at Haskett Funeral Home, 456 Main Street South, EXETER on Monday February 17th from 11 โ€“ 12:30, following will be Edmund’s memorial service at 1 PM. Cremation has taken place. A private family graveside will take place in spring at the Coningsby Cemetery, Erin.

So hard to lose such a close beloved family member and friend.
Weeks and months go by and turn into years and we lose touch. So sad.
I remember Eddie as a quiet man with a great sense of humour and a great listener. He was a great friend of my brother Harold and Harold will miss him.
I pray for comfort and peace for the familyโฃ๏ธโค๏ธ

We were so sad to hear of Edโ€™s passing . We only knew him through shuffleboard but grew to love his passion for the game, his wicked sense of humour, and his perseverance through the pain he was experiencing towards the end. He took such delight in putting someone in the kitchen ( a shuffleboard term) and got such a gleam in his eye when he was anticipating such a move. We appreciated the time and energy he put into the Seaforth shuffleboard group and we are very much the richer for having known him. Our special condolences to Chris and our hearts are with you in your grief.

Christine this is the time when you you cherish your times shared with Ed over the years. Travelling, gardening, watching sports, family and friend gatherings, card parties, shuffling (the laughs) and taking turns blowing snow.
We will miss the big greeting smile at the door and the big wave from the car as you two drove past our place.
Christine your circle of friends in Seaforth are here to support you in your loss. โค๏ธ
