SLAGHT: Gordon Leland of Crediton *Updated

July 29, 2025 By Haskett Funeral Homes 73 Condolences

SLAGHT: Gordon Leland of Crediton *Updated

July 20, 1933 – July 20, 2025

Gord Slaght peacefully passed away in his sleep on his birthday while resting at Jessica’s House, Exeter. Dad was still enjoying watching sports with mom and joking with everyone. He even shared a special visit and gave a blood brother thumbs up to an old friend.

Gord was born on July 20, 1933 in Regina, SK. The family moved to Kenville, MB where they had a family farm. Dad is predeceased by his parents, his brothers and sister Ed and Mary Slaght, Jack and Joyce Slaght, Wayne and Joanne Slaght, and Jean and Dwight McKay.

People will remember Gord ‘The Bear’ as a fastball pitcher and ball player. He loved playing hockey and golf throughout the years. He worked as a trainman for CP Rail in London. He is best remembered for becoming a plumber and running a successful business in Crediton. He always said he had a lot of great people that worked with him and Bonnie throughout the years.

Gord was married to Bonnie for 69 years. They still lived and enjoyed their house in Crediton. Gord like to fix things from John Deere tractors to old pick-up trucks. He would tinker for hours in his shop while Bonnie would look after her flowers in the gardens. Bonnie and Gord loved their many friends and neighbours that have known them throughout the years.

Gord was proud of his children Jeff and Ruth Slaght, and Joanne Slaght and Bo Beaul. He loved his grandkids Jessica and Brandon Borden, Hailey Slaght and Seth Macey, Jordan Slaght; and Zachary Slaght. Gord and Bonnie also loved their great-grandchildren Payton and Kaleb.

As per Gord’s request a small Celebration of Life will be held at the Crediton Hall, 38 Victoria Avenue East, CREDITON on Sunday, August 17th from 1 – 4 PM. An inurnment will be held at the Crediton Cemetery and a memorial tree will also be planted. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Jessica’s House Hospice or the South Huron Hospital Foundation.

Rest in Peace G.L.

Dear Bonnie and family. Our deepest sympathy to you. My dad always had such wonderful tales about their interaction with each other. He thought very highly of him as a honest businessperson and friend. We have not seen Gord for a few years. The last time was at the Crediton Church fish fry at the pavilion. He always welcomed Richard and I with a smile and a twinkle in his eye, followed by a little chat. I know that you will miss him, along with the rest of the Crediton community. Cherish your memories.
