1929-2024
Wrapped in the love of her family, Jennie peacefully departed to join Elmer and dance among the stars.
Jennie leaves behind a devoted family: Kathy & Jim Lewis, Bob Rowe & Colleen Elliott, Jim & Jackie Rowe, Lori & Brent Clarke, Jeff & Rose Rowe, and Dale Livingston, along with 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Jennie’s life was defined by her ambition, compassion, and boundless love for others. Her proudest chapter was spent at the SHDHS cafeteria, where she served four generations of families. Students flocked to her kitchen for freshly baked chocolate chip cookies and, most importantly, the chance to chat with Jennie. She had a way of making everyone feel welcome, whether they came for a laugh, advice, or simply to enjoy her cheerful presence. For those who were seeking solace, Jennie became a trusted mentor and a mother figure, offering encouragement and helping them find confidence and purpose.
Jennie had a rare gift for leaving a lasting impression. Through heartfelt conversations, lighthearted jokes, or wise advice, she made people feel valued and understood. Even after retiring at 85, her declining health could not dim her vibrant spirit or stop her from sharing “Jennie’s magic with everyone around her.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the compassionate team at Bluewater Rest Home for the loving care they provided Jennie. To her friends who kept in touch, your visits, calls, and cards brightened her days and warmed her heart. She was so grateful for all of you.
As the family reflects and takes time to grieve, they invite you to join them in celebrating Jennie’s remarkable life. A Celebration of Life will be held at Haskett Funeral Home, 456 Main Street South, EXETER on Saturday, January 4, 2025, from 1 to 4 PM, with words beginning at 2 PM. The timing allows the family the opportunity to prepare a meaningful gathering and ensure everyone has a chance to come together to celebrate her legacy.
To honour Jennie’s passion for food and helping others, donations to the Huron County Food Bank or the Rural Response for Healthy Children – Christmas Bureau in her memory would be greatly appreciated.

To all Jennie’s Family & Friends
My condolences to each of you at this sad time. You all have many great Memories of her to treasure as I do as well. One in particular was when she would let us, the Grade 8s from Exeter Public School come to the side door of the cafeteria on Fridays to buy fries & gravy. Oh so good! Many years later she still always took time to chat whenever our paths crossed. Her personal license plate said it all…..Thinking of you all & sending hugs.

Heartfelt condolences on your Mom’s passing. Jennie was loving, kind, and friendly to everyone she met. I gained invaluable life skills from Jennie in the cafeteria at SHDHS. Later, in the canteen at the Canner’s. Jennie was the best boss I ever had. She also became my friend, and was a second Mom to me. My parents knew Jennie and appreciated her too. Jennie, you also became important in my husband, children’s, and grandchildren’s lives. We kept in touch all our lives. Lastly was Bluewater Resthome in Zurich. You still had your wonderful, loving sense of humour. Cherish your precious memories. Keep them close to your heart. May your faith, family and friends give you peace and comfort in the coming months. You are in our thoughts and prayers. Love you Jennie, you have earned your wings, dancing with Elmer.

Our sincere sympathy in the passing of your dear Mother, Grandmother and Great grandma. Like many, I first met Jennie across the counter in the cafeteria at SHDHS. From the high school cafeteria to the arena food booth to so many other projects around our area, Jennie was an integral and valuable part of the fabric of our community. She contributed greatly in everything she did and to every person she touched. Her energy, work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit were extremely admirable. It’s hard to put into words how grateful I am to have known Jennie for any years. She taught me life lessons that I use to this day. Interesting enough I was purging some boxes the day before Jodi called to tell me the news, I found the last card that Jennie sent me. It talked about all the good times we had and of the many years that had passed. I know she will be resting in peace, she lived a wonderful life and I was always glad to have known her. Condolences to all her family and friends, see you all in January……

Jennie was one of a kind. I worked with her for about 15 years accepting her advice and her friendship. She was loved by the kids and all who toiled along side her to provide meals and a smile to thousands of kids who passed in front of her. We often talked about school life, nutrition and the challenges that we all faced from time to time. She was a loving mother and a support to so many more. My sympathies go each of you, but you did have a long time to enjoy her love and create terrific memories. Enjoy them.

It was a privilege to know Jennie, and we send our most sincere condolences to the family. She had a way to make your day “brighter” just by seeing her smile and having a short chat, before she rushed off to chat with the next person she ran into. Rest in Peace Jennie, you’ve certainly earned it.

I am one of the hundreds (thousands?) of people who was on the receiving end of Jennie’s magic. How could one person make so many people feel special?
I must admit I always felt a bit uncomfortable at the start of any conversation I had with Jennie. If she were to ask me something as innocent as “How are you doing?” with her eyes looking deeply into mine, I knew there was no point in giving her anything but a truthful answer. She never stopped looking deeply into my eyes throughout our conversation. And when the conversation was over Jennie’s magic kicked in.
I will miss her very much.

To all of the Rowe family: I had the pleasure of working along with Jennie ( I always considered her a member of the staff ) at South Huron DHS for 35 years. She was valued far beyond her skills in the cafeteria and she will be fondly remembered by generations of students, most notably I would say for her kindness and her compassion. She did lots of little things for students behind the scenes and was the epitome of a caring educator. Thanks Jennie for all that you did for South Huron! Your contributions are and will continue to be fondly remembered. Cheers, Terry O’Rourke

Aunt Geneva was like a second Mother to Me and was a Shining Star for Our family. She was Moms “other sister” and closest confidant/friend, giving Mom unwavering support in the hardest of times. Her Love was openly shared with anyone who walked into Her life and it was very apparent that Love touched all who knew Her. I will always hold in My heart, the words of encouragement and Love She gave freely to Me on many occasions. In the simplest ways She spread Her Love, caring and understanding to all.
My memories of “the farm” are burned deep in my heart and soul because of Her smile, touch and great times She made possible.
I have to also throw in one of the stories She told Us after the funniest thing I’ve ever heard..
Driving home from somewhere, she turned onto the road to “the farm” and the kids were, as usual, “being kids” and when they got home Aunt Geneva was gettting the kids and and one was missing and she immediately panicked and asked where he was, the other kids said he fell out down the road and she rushed back down the road and found him in the ditch, unharmed …😳😳😁😁😁…..I think it was Bob,but it’s been a long time..
I’m so sorry We didn’t get over again before She passed, but Aunt Geneva, You KNOW!!!! You’re always in My thoughts and prayers.
Rest in peace with that beautiful smile and loving heart…❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏😡

My condolences to all family and friends of Jennie’s. I was very close to Jennie. I use to work in the Cafeteria, Arena Concession Booth & at her home doing many jobs. I use to call her a few times at the Rest Home and talk forever. Jennie always told me. Hey!!! I still Owe You Money… For the jobs you did for me. I’m like I’m alright. Your fine Jennie. You had homecooked meals for lunch in the cafeteria at the highschool. You could smell the fresh hot food and fresh baked cookies all throughout the hallways of the highschool. Always lots of smiles and candies in the cafeteria. Elmer, Missy, The Farm, Her Family. South Huron District High School Family Cafeteria. (Bill). Was the first things Jennie always talked about. C ROWE GO. I Think her license plate was C ROW GO. Jennie was amazing caring loving lady. Jennie Always put everyone before herself or anyone else. I’m very proud to have known Jennie and worked for her and known her family. Jennie would help any students in need. Jennie loved and had great sense of humor, Jennie could talk to for days. Elmer & Jennie helped me bring home a brand new tv for my parents from Sears one day from school. My mom yelled at me. What are you doing home so early and how. I’m like I’m dropping off something, by. Gotta go with Jennie. I worked a few different weddings Jennie catered too as well. I remember a time when Jennie and I was in Exeter at a local Restaurant. After her retirement. She said. She wanted her Back facing the people. Because She knew everyone. And wanted her own time and space. After her retirement I would still help around Jennie’s house. Many trips Jennie and I had going to Costco. Citizen Of The Year Award was given to Jennie Rowe from MPP Lisa Thompson 2016. My condolences to all family and friends of Jennie Rowe’s.

Kathy, Bob, Jim, Lori & Jeff; our sincerest condolences to the passing your dear mother Jennie. I loved working for her as a teenager. I think I worked for her everywhere, including babysitting the grandchildren. She taught me how to work hard, but have fun while you’re at it. So many great memories. Jennie & Elmer were terrific friends of my Mom and Dad, Wilmer & Grace Adkins. I know you shared her with so many people, but she was just that special.
