PORTER: Alan Louis of London, formerly of Lucan

December 6, 2025 By Haskett Funeral Homes 32 Condolences

PORTER: Alan Louis of London, formerly of Lucan

Passed away peacefully at Mount Hope Long Term Care, London with family by his side on Friday, December 5, 2025 at the age of 85. Beloved husband of the late Monica (Oโ€™Shea) Porter (November 25, 2025) for 56 years. Loving father of Sean Porter (Kim), Michael Porter, Erin Fenwick (Jamie), and the late Matthew Porter (2020). Proud Grampa of Brianna (Michael), Kieran, Alison, and Aidan. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Norman and Terri Porter, Patricia and Robert App, Ron McGillivray, Mike and Diane Oโ€™Shea, Beth Oโ€™Shea, Anne and Vic Zammit, and Geraldine and Rex McCoy. Fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Predeceased by his parents Norman and Alice Porter, sister Nancy McGillivray, parents-in-law James and Evelyn (Payton) Oโ€™Shea and brothers-in-law Charlie Oโ€™Shea and Patrick Oโ€™Shea.

Born in Detroit, Michigan on August 1, 1940, Alan moved to Canada as a young boy and carried with him a passion for sport, family, and hard work. A gifted hockey player, he continued to enjoy the game well into his later years at Mount Hope, where indoor floor hockey brought him joy and camaraderie. In the off-season, golf kept him active and competitive.

Al owned and operated his London business, Graphic Preparation, where his remarkable attention to detail and unwavering work ethic earned the respect of colleagues and clients alike. In 1969 he married the love of his life, Monica, and together they shared countless dances and built a family he cherished above all else.

Quiet by nature but known for his sharp sense of humour, Al had a way of making people feel at ease and valued. A devoted family man and a steady, humble presence, he will be remembered with love by all who knew him.

Visitation will be held at Haskett Funeral Home, 223 Main Street, LUCAN on Wednesday, December 10th from 9:30 โ€“ 10:30 AM, where Alanโ€™s funeral service will be held at 11 AM. Interment St. Patrick Cemetery, Lucan.

    Sean, Micheal and Erin
I first met Al in the early 70’s when he was working at Artcraft Engravers and I was starting one of my first jobs, we hit it off right away. I think he even taught me a little golf also. Later I became one of his customers when he started his own business and I had moved on to other employment.
I will always think of Al as one of Life’s True Gentleman.

It was a honour and pleasure to have gotten to know both Al and Monica over the past few years. I saw Allanโ€™s smiling face almost everyday while he lived in same building and saw him quite often at Mount Hope. Thoughts to the lovely family at this time

Sean, Erin and Mike: So sorry for the loss of your Dad. You guys have had a couple of very difficult weeks. Things happen in strange ways sometimes. I feel like I hear your Dad saying “Hey Mon wait for me”.
First met Al probably 66 years ago when what turned out to be my future father in law took a carload to Owen Sound to see the Greys play the Waterloo Siskins of which Al was a member. Don’t ask me the score but I remember the Siskins won and Al played a rugged game on defense with his partner Don Awry (who had a long NHL career). Why do the years have to go by so fast?
    Stay strong for each other.
    Love to all
    Uncle Ron
