PICKERING: Peacefully, at his residence, on Thursday, June 2, 2022, Stanley Ross Pickering of London formerly of Brampton and Khiva (Dashwood), after enjoying 69 years as a friend of everyone he met. Beloved husband of Susan Ruth (Palmer) Krause. Step-father of Lawrence (Alison) and Ginnie (Nathan) and Grandpa Stan to Philippa, Penelope, Jonathan, Gaius, Blaise and Pandora. Stan was the eldest son of the late Ross and Evelyn (Shank) Pickering. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Mike and Jo-Anne Pickering of RR3, Dashwood, Sue Guenther of Ottawa, Nancy and Randy Regier of RR3, Zurich, Jane Kerslake and Joe Hahn of London, Lynda Palmer, John and Marjo Palmer, Kathleen Palmer-Fabrizi and Enzo Fabrizi. Remembered by his aunts Ellen Smithers, Cathy Pickering, Grace Denomme, Judith Pickering, Joyce Elder Marilyn Pickering, Karen Pickering, Rena Truemner and many cousins, nieces, nephews and their families. Resting at the T. Harry Hoffman & Sons Funeral Home, Dashwood, with Public Visitation on Sunday, June 5, 2022 from 6 to 8 p.m.; the family asks that you please wear masks. A Private Family Graveside Service will be held. Interment Crediton Cemetery. A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held in the Fall of 2022, date, time and location to be announced. If desired, memorial donations (payable directly) to VON, Ontario Federation for Cerebral Palsy or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.

Our condolences to Susan and family and all the Pickering family. I have fond memories of our family visiting Stan’s family as kids. We always made sure our visit coincided with Stan being home. He was just one of us kids. Then we grew up and I hadn’t seen Stan in a few years,then he threw the first pitch at a Werewolves game in Labatt Park( again many years ago) I went to see Stan that night and when I told him who I was and my Dad’s name he remembered all the good times.

To all the Pickering family; Saddened to hear of Stans passing. We were next door neighbours to the Pickerings on the farm. We spent a lot of time 2gether as Stan and I were only 3 days apart in age. He was a guy who seemed to not realize that he had a disability and enjoyed life as a kid as much as the rest of us. I have a lot of fond memories of the Pickering family and especially Stan. Stan had many fine qualities (including a wry sense of humour which both Marilyn and I enjoyed) but perhaps the most inspiring was his steadfast determination in not letting his physical limitations stop him from experiencing the good, bad, and everything in between that life has to offer. While some might have resigned to a solitary life, withdrawn from the people and the world around them, Stan did not; he engaged actively; encouraged and aided particularly by his partner Susan
One of the ‘Christmas classic’ movies viewed annually in our home is “It’s a Wonderful Life”. In the final scene of the movie the lead character reads an inscription in a book gifted to him: “no man is poor who has friends”. If that’s true, Stan was a very wealthy person indeed.
We hope fond memories will sustain loved ones and look forward to sharing reminiscences when a celebration of Stan’s life is held.
