Passed away peacefully after a long struggle, at South Huron Hospital with his family by his side on Friday, December 8, 2023 of Exeter at the age of 73. Cherished, loving, and devoted husband of Joyce (Ferguson) for over 53 years. Proud father of Becky and Scott Simpson, and Christine and Brian Merrigan. Adored grandpa of Jesse, Stephanie (Jordan), Ethan, Anna, and Sarah and great-grandpa of Huxley. Dear brother and brother-in-law of the late Gerry (2020) and Joan Morgan, Scot Morgan and Judy Parsons, Susan and Dave Regier, Larry and Gisele Ferguson, and Jim and Linda Ferguson. Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Bev and Burdene (Clarke) Morgan, and his parents-in-law Russell and Leita (Kinsman) Ferguson.
John was an active firefighter for over 40 years and retired as the Fire Chief of the South Huron Fire Department. He was the owner of the 3rd generation Insurance Brokerage for 30 years. He was the Huron County Mutual Aid Coordinator and was involved with the Exeter Oddfellows, Exeter Optimist Club, and a member of the Exeter United Church. John was an avid hunter and fisherman, always enjoying the great outdoors. In his spare time, he loved to go camping or could be found in the winter months enjoying his home in Florida with Joyce and friends. John could fix anything, always tinkering in the shed. His pride and joy was his family, especially his grandchildren and he was so proud to have passed down his athletic nature and “fix anything” skills to them. John always made time to go to whatever sporting event the kids were involved in.
A celebration of John’s life will be held at Haskett Funeral Home, 456 Main Street South, EXETER on Monday, December 11th from 1 – 4 PM with words of remembrance at 3 PM. Cremation to follow with interment Exeter Cemetery at a later date.
