July 18, 1931 – June 30, 2025
Eleanor Adeline Mansfield passed away peacefully on Monday, June 30, 2025, in the village where she was born and spent nearly all her life, Hensall, Ontario. She was 93.
Born July 18, 1931, to Thomas Lloyd Venner and Isabelle Mae Haskett, Eleanor lost her mother young but grew up under the quiet guidance of her father, whose steadiness shaped much of who she became. In her heart, she carried those early years forever.
In her younger years, Eleanor worked for Bell Canada as a telephone operator, a job she took pride in, before choosing to become a full-time mother and housekeeper. She poured her time and care into her home and family, never seeking recognition, simply doing what needed to be done.
She was predeceased by her husband, Eric George Mansfield, in 2014, and by her daughter-in-law, Susan Judith Feaver-Mansfield, in 2018. She is survived by her son, Paul Douglas Mansfield of Woodstock, Ontario. Also surviving is Maggie McLeod, the family’s beloved dachshund, named in honour of Eleanor’s grandmother.
Throughout her life, Eleanor remained close with many cousins, connections that offered her comfort, continuity, and a shared sense of belonging. These ties, built over years of letters, visits, and quiet affection, were deeply valued and never taken for granted.
Eleanor lived with grace and without fanfare. As the quiet matriarch of a small family, she carried a steady presence and a private strength that didn’t call attention to itself but was always felt. She was a keeper of routines, of small kindnesses, and of stories no longer told. To those who knew her, she was grounding. Quiet but sure.
Rest well beneath this bright northern sky.
Once more with you husband, your father, your mother Rest well.
And I will see you once more –
In dreams
In thoughts
In my heart.

Paul, I am so sorry to hear of your Mom’s passing. Your lovely post reminded me of times visiting your Grandpa, a great shooting friend of my Dad. Eleanor was always so caring with Lloyd in her quiet way. I always remember a Daschaund at her feet way back then in their cozy house. May your memories be a blessing.
