.Aunt Olave you were a force that will not be soon forgotten. I will miss hearing what you are up to next but will always be thankful to you for setting the example of what it means to live fully. I can only imagine the celebration when you get to that big family picnic in the sky. Thanks for hosting them so often down here on earth. Great memories. To Charlie, Faye, Dyke, Neil and families – love and condolences.

My condolences to Olave’s family. My association with Olave is Legion Ladies Auxiliary related. Many years back, Olave travelled with me as Deputy Zone Commander. Olave loved life and lived it to its fullest. She was very dedicated to Legion and in her later years objected when the Seaforth Ladies felt the need to Surrender their Charter, strangely, she and the Auxiliary retired in the same year and only months apart. May she rest in Peace.

    January 11, 2022 at 7:23 PM

So sorry Charlie Faye Dyke and Neil. It is hard to lose your Mom no matter what her age. Aunt Olave always made family gatherings enjoyable and hosted many of them years ago. Enjoyed lately when Faye and her would drop in when out for a drive. Jim has the story that it was no use arguing with Aunt Olave so once brother Don was blamed for something that Jim did. Your Mom will be missed by many as evident by the many messages. Jim and Janet

So sorry to hear about Olave. Winthrop Store missed her after she retired but the C4th golf course took up her passion. If Olave and her friends came up behind you on the course the etiquette took over as she was coming through. Bill and Olave were good neighbours, blowing snow, working in the store, babysitting our boys and even the dog if we were away. Those butter tarts were better than Weston’s Bakery and sold very well in the store. All those years of walking for exercise did her no harm. She will be missed.

Sending our sympathies. Great Aunt Olave was a firecracker and I have several fond memories of her. She will not be forgotten- especially her grin, and strength and ambition to always find a way to get that golf game in. She is inspirational. Love Laurie (Bill and Ingrid Kerr’s daughter), my husband Matt and our family.

We are so saddened to hear of Olave’s passing. She was a wonderful lady who always had a smile and ready for a chat. She never missed a community gathering whether it was card parties for anniversary parties (and you better be on your toes if she was your partner!), church picnics, etc. or just gatherings in the Winthrop store while she was at work. Who knew getting groceries could be such an enjoyable social time. Her quick wit always left you with a smile!
Olave could make butter tarts like no other!! No matter were you had a butter tart the remark was always ” it is not like Olave’s!”
Olave will be missed, but leaves so many happy memories behind.
Our deepest sympathy to the Little family.

Dear Faye, Neil, Charlie and Dyke and children: We are deeply saddened by the news of your Mom’s and Grandma’s passing. We knew her to be a warm, giving, kind and incredibly strong woman. I was always welcomed into her home and her family with warmth and the greatest of respect for which I will always be grateful. Olave always overcame challenges with good cheer and zero self-pity. Her love of having fun and her sense of humour were among her greatest attributes. She loved telling and hearing new jokes, attending parties and dances, especially when accompanied by her best friend Bush. She was so proud of all her children and grandchildren and liked to tell her friends and visitors what each and every one was up to. And her athletic prowess was known far and wide. No one we ever mentioned this to readily believed that a woman well into her nineties was still out on the golf course almost every week of the summer and that she knew her way around the course with vim, vigor and a very respectable degree of skill. She was everyone’s ideal of what a loving mother, grandmother and mother-in-law should and could be. We hope that the pain and sadness you are feeling right now will eventually be overshadowed and overcome by the warmth of your memories of her in happier times. You are in our thoughts every day.
    – DeWayne, Sofia, Erin and Alain Elliott.

Dear Gary, Faye, Dyke, Neil and families,
My deepest condolences to you on the passing of your mother/grandmother/great-grandmother. As I write this, I am thinking of so many fond memories I have of growing up by your mom and dad’s home in Winthrop. To me, Olave was another grandmother. I remember playing in Olave and Bill’s front yard with Ida. Olave hemmed my clothing when I needed pant legs lifted up, and her and Bill’s home was always open for visiting. They made me laugh. I will treasure the visit I had with her after returning from my first trip overseas in 2007 to honour her brother when we visited Beny-sur-Mer Canadian War Cemetery and Juno Beach with my students. Having your mom come to my high school’s Remembrance Day Assembly in 2019 as a special guest to honour her brother, Rifleman Robert Papple meant so very much to me. I cannot express how much my heart hurts for you and how much I will miss her. Cherish all the memories you have (I know I do), and may the love of your family and friends help sustain you in the time ahead. Thinking of you all,
    Tracy (Bosman) McLennan
