JACOBE: Mary (Hauser) of Exeter

December 2, 2025 By Haskett Funeral Homes 96 Condolences

JACOBE: Mary (Hauser) of Exeter

Peacefully, with her family by her side, Mary passed away at the Exeter Villa on Monday, December 1, 2025 in her 98th year. Beloved wife of the late Laird Jacobe (2006). Cherished mother of Sharon and Doug Kyle of St. Joseph, and Raye and the late Jean (2024) Jacobe of Exeter. Proud grandmother of Sarah Kyle of St. Joseph; and Ryan and Lisa Jacobe of Centralia, and great-grandmother of Carson, Jade, and Maci. Predeceased by her parents John and Gertrude (Weigand) Hauser and her brother and sister-in-law John and Marion Hauser.

Mary lived a life grounded in service, community, and simple joys. For more than 25 years, she shaped young minds as a devoted teacher with the Huron County Board of Education. Her commitment to others continued through her faithful involvement at Emmanuel United Church and her contributions to the Hay History Book. Creative and skilled, Mary lovingly crocheted numerous doilies and thoroughly enjoyed quilting.

She and Laird shared a beautiful bond, spending countless happy hours dancing, traveling, playing euchre and solo, and enjoying time at the bowling alley. Retirement at the lake in St. Josephโ€™s was a cherished time for Mary and Laird.

Visitation will be held at Haskett Funeral Home, 456 Main Street South, EXETER on Saturday, December 6th from 9:00 AM โ€“ 10: 30 AM, where Maryโ€™s funeral service will begin at 10:30 AM with Rev. Nancy Knowles Officiating. Stream the service live or at your convenience by visiting www.facebook.com/haskettfh. Private family interment Bluewater Bronson Line Public Cemetery, Zurich.

Donations to Jessicaโ€™s House or the Grand Bend Community Food Pantry would be appreciated by the family.

Dear Sharon, Raye, and families, I was so sorry to hear of your mother’s passing, but I am thankful that she is no longer in pain and is now reunited with Laird. It feels like the end of an era. Mary was such a fine person. I remember her wonderful smile and lively sense of humour. She was also a kind and generous neighbour, and a remarkably gifted teacher (I had her as a substitute teacher at Hensall Public School). Our families were neighbours on the Parr Line for several generations, and that friendship always meant a great deal to us. My father always remarked on the excellent apple butter that Laird’s mother made. I have one very vivid memory of visiting your farm. Raye had a pony and offered to let me ride it. I, of course, fell off and then ran across the field to catch the runaway horse. I finally caught hold of its tail and was dragged for some distance across the recently ploughed ground. It was a bumpy episode but I was not hurt at all, and took it as a sign that horses and I had best keep our distance. Sharon, your eulogy for your Mom was very heartfelt and beautiful. She would have been very proud of you. Sending you all our love and deepest condolences at this sad time, John, Laurie, and Ruthie

So very sorry to hear of your momโ€™s passing..
This fall I had the pleasure of visiting with your mom at the Villa. My grandson Jaceโ€™s class came to the villa to play games with the residents. I was there with my mom in law Elaine. Mary joined our table. I introduced myself as I have known your mom for a long time. Jace and two other boys from his class joined us in crokinole. Mary sat with us and watched and smiled. The boys tried to convince her to play . It was cute.
Mary lived a great life. Thinking of you all and hold your memories close.

Sharon, Doug and Sarah; and Raye and his family,

The Jacobe family has been part of my life since Sharon and I met in grade 9. I have many happy memories of times spent together over the years on the farm and at the lake and later when your Mom was on her own. It was easy to tell that she had been a good teacher. Losing a Mother is such a painful experience, no matter when it happens in your life. My heart breaks for Sharon and Raye and their families. Such beautiful photos of happy times. May the wonderful memories of your Mom give you solace in the weeks and months ahead. Iโ€™ll always have fond memories of Mr. and Mrs. Jacobe, now together again.

Love and hugs and shared tears,

Mrs. Jacobe was my Gr. 8 teacher … and so much more. I was so very blessed to be taken under her wing and into the home she & Laird made, as Sharon’s friend. I have fond memories of Grandma Jacobe’s fresh strawberry pie, the making of homemade ketchup (who knew?) , the barley itch, gathering eggs and warily eyeing up the family bull. There were bike rides down to the Hillsgreen Store with a stop to chat at the McAllisters, as well (Shirley was doing her ironing). I was included in Mary’s evening art course and she made sure I got to my Gr. 8 info night at the SHDHS, when my own family had other plans (poker night). She instilled the value of education in me and for that I will be ever grateful. It was always a pleasure to ‘catch up’ with her where ever our paths crossed. I saw her last spring, after our Villa church service. <3 I am so glad she has been released from her earthly bonds to soar freely with Laird and those who have gone on before. Sending my deepest sympathy and respect to Sharon, Doug and family and Raye and family, as well. Wishing you love and peace.

Sorry for your loss Sharon and Raye.
Your mom was a special lady,
Through my visits with her she was able to share a lot of family history.
History was her forte as well as teaching. She had lots of advice for me when I started teaching!
I will miss my visits with her and the special hugs of love.

To the Jacobe/Kyle family, our sincere sympathy on the passing of your mom & grandma. Losing your mom, is one of life’s saddest times and our hearts go out to you. Mrs. Jacobe (she will forever be Mrs. Jacobe to me) was a wonderful teacher and I was one of her lucky students, in Hensall. She made science fun! You have many memories to cherish and I hope they bring you comfort. With hugs, Gary & Beth
