At Stratford General Hospital on Thursday, May 22, 2025, of Varna in his 79th year. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Andrew and Ruth Imanse, Peter and Jean Imanse, Jo-Anne and John Forestell, John Hoogenes, and Darlene and Petr Stastny. Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents John and Cornelia Imanse, brother Frank Imanse and his sisters Gertie Penninga (Don), Janice DeVries, and Susanna Speir (Bob).
Visitation will be held at Haskett Funeral Home, 456 Main Street South, EXETER on Thursday, May 29th from 2 – 4 PM, where John’s funeral service will be held on Friday, May 30th at 10:30 AM with visitation one hour prior. Interment Baird’s Cemetery.
Donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.

So sorry to hear of the passing of John. John was a great customer of Thompsons in Hensall and always appreciated his talks at the counter. John had a very easy going personality and I always enjoyed our conversations. I wish to extend my sincere condolences to Johns entire family.

Dear Family:
Like all of you, we can’t believe Uncle John has left this life for the next. When we saw him in April, it seemed like the usual ‘see you next visit’ and not goodbye. As always we made the offer for a visit to Alberta, with a trip on the Rocky Mountaineer as the big temptation. And we still thought he might do it one day. I wish we could be with you all now but our goodbye but will have to settle for sharing a few memories instead.
One of my earliest memories of Uncle John is riding in his truck while Judy, Joyce and I stayed at the farm when Don was born. He hit every bump in the road (Oma never knew)while we screamed with laughter and bounced around the vehicle (the days before seatbelts). He made up names for the treats we were getting – ‘monkey bars’ is the one I remember.
Growing up, I remember him more as part of the aunts and uncles who let us roam around the farm, and never failed to have licorice all sorts in stock. He was the one with the gruff voice and the soft heart, especially for animals. Who wouldn’t love that?
As the years went by and we made it to Ontario more often, we tried to connect every visit. Uncle John was the guy who always thought it was too early for you to leave, no matter what time it was. The Sunday night group gradually grew smaller but always lively. We got to know more of the complex and warm person that he was.
Uncle John, we’ll miss your stories, your laugh, your searching questions about life and the way you connected with the every generation of your family. Love always, Deb and Shaun

R.I.P. John. condolences to all the family. met John on the 100th anniversary of Vimy trip to France, we bonded immediately, & have kept in touch ever since. what a kind, gentle, funny man. i so enjoyed the talks we would have. I know John made friends with 100’s of people on these tours to Europe. I still giggle to myself , remembering when he told me about the rooster who escaped to his shop, would sit on his knee & John would feed it chicken weiners. Only to discover weeks later, when there was a strong smell around his desk, which rita pulled out to investigate, that the rooster was really a hen, that had been laying eggs behind his desk! I’m so glad john had his final trip to Holland & that he overcame his apprehension to go, after his hospitalization in France on his previous trip. A life well lived John, with all the health issues you had, the friends you made, & all the memories. we miss you already. donna & billy
