HODGINS: Deborah Jean (MacGregor) of Exeter

February 24, 2025 By Haskett Funeral Homes 156 Condolences

HODGINS: Deborah Jean (MacGregor) of Exeter

Passed away at Jessica’s House after a courageous battle, with her family by her side on Sunday, February 23, 2025, at the age of 63. Loved wife of Brian Hodgins for 42 years. Loving mom of Nevin Hodgins (Megan). Proud nana of Oaklyn and Halston.

Dear sister and sister-in-law of Danny MacGregor (Cathy), Bruce MacGregor, Diane MacGregor (Dave), Joyce MacGregor, Linda MacGregor, and Steve Hodgins (Rita). Survived by her mother-in-law Donna Hodgins. Predeceased by her parents Gerald and Betty (Campbell) MacGregor, siblings Larry MacGregor, Ken MacGregor, Murray MacGregor, Donna MacGregor, and father-in-law Max Hodgins.

Debbie was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt and special nana – she especially loved watching her granddaughters skate and swim. She was a kind and gentle family person. Debbie was a longtime employee of Dashwood Industries and Eric Campbell Ford Lincoln. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and neighbours. Special thanks to Charlene Foxton and the volunteers and staff at Jessica’s House for their care and compassion.

A celebration of life will be held at Haskett Funeral Home, 456 Main Street South, EXETER on Thursday, February 27th from 1 – 3 PM with words of remembrance at 2PM. Please dress casually. Cremation has taken place. A private family interment will be held at the Exeter Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Jessica’s House or your favourite charity would be appreciated by the family.

Sending my sincerest condolences to you all. It was heartbreaking to hear of Deb’s passing. I have so many fond memories as a child of you guys at our house, and us at yours. Many Christmas eves and late nights hearing the fun and laughter, and maybe a few curse words, going on. There are some people in life who always have a place in your memories and heart throughout the years, and you guys are definitely one of them. Thinking of you all at this very sad and difficult time.

Debbie was a wonderful lady that lit up a room when she was there. She always had a smile on her face. We will remember her for how kind she was and how she treated our boys as if they were her own grandkids. our boys treated her and Brian as another set of grandparents making special trips at halloween just to show them their costumes a tradition we had ever since Declan was born. We will truly miss what a wonderful person she was but will never forget her and how she touched us all.

Dear: Brian, Nevin, Megan, Granddaughters: Oaklyn & Halston
    MacGregor & Hodgins Families / Friends . . .

There are no words to ease the pain of losing a loved one far too young from such a horrible disease. 💔 We offer our sincerest condolences to all of you during this immensely sad time with the passing of Debbie. Her early departure from your lives will leave an immeasurable void in your hearts, but know she loved her family & friends unconditionally. 🙏🏻 She touched so many lives, leaving a profound impact on all who had the privilege of knowing her. I got to know Debbie while working side-by-side as co-workers in the front office at Eric Campbell’s dealership for many years. Debbie was a very loyal & dedicated employee who enjoyed & loved her job (while having fun & joking around). Both her & I had great times, sharing & laughing at countless stories & interesting conversations, mostly concerning our families. ❤️ Her pride & joy was Nevin, she was so very proud of his accomplishments & she was looking so forward to becoming a grandma one day. I am so glad that she was blessed with that opportunity & that she enjoyed precious time loving her two beautiful granddaughters. Debbie’s earthly struggles are now over – she is now reunited with loved ones in Heaven. Her memory will forever live on, in the stories, laughter & love you shared as a family & may they heal your hearts & brings smiles through your tears. ❤️ Rest in Peace Debbie! ❤️

    ❤️ “Don’t cry because I’m gone; Smile brightly because I lived.” ❤️

The loss of a wife is losing your forever partner/soulmate & greatest love.
The loss of a mother is losing part of your legacy/beacon of strength & role model.
The loss of a grandmother is losing part of your patriarch who sowed seeds of love & wisdom.
The loss of a daughter-in-law is losing a dear daughter with so much spirit & a good heart full of love.
The loss of a sister is losing part of your childhood.
The loss of a sister-in-law is losing a lifelong friend.
The loss of a dear friend is losing a unique friendship.

❤️ “When we lose someone we love, we must learn not to live without them, but to live with the love they left behind.” ❤️

Sending prayers of healing, may your family find strength & peace in each other now – you are surrounded by the love of family & friends to help you through the difficult days of mourning & grief that lay ahead. ❤️🙏🏻❤️

    Brian, Nevin, Megan and family:
    So sorry for your loss.

I had great talks with Deb for years at the dealership pretty much daily, when Ashley was 3 or 4 years old and Ashley would come in to see me with Karen at the dealership,
Ashley always ran to Deb’s office and sat on Deb’s lap, Deb would let Ashley stamp envelopes and colour with her at Deb’s desk.. lots of great memories that will never be forgotten…

Condolences Brian, Nevin and family. This came as a big shock to me.
I knew Deb from Dashwood Industries but got to work with her at Eric Campbell’s. She took me under her wing and showed me the ropes. We had quite a few laughs my short time there.
Deb was big on family and talked a lot about her son often and with pride.
I see he now has a few kids and she would of loved being a grandma.
I am so sorry for your loss Brian, Nevin and family. Take care of each other.
