April 22, 2013 By Haskett Funeral Homes 22 Condolences

HOCKEY: Mary (Taman) of Exeter

Peacefully, at the Exeter Villa on Sunday, April 21, 2013 of Exeter in her 92nd year.  Beloved wife of the late Harold Hockey (2000).  Dear mother of the late Larry Hockey (2005), Dennis and Carole Hockey of Exeter and Paul and LaDonna Hockey of London.  Dear grandmother of Douglas Hockey, Teri-Lyn Hockey; Cheryl Trikha; ElDonna Hockey, Peter Hockey, Kenneth Hockey, Maria Fiebig, Nathania Hockey and several great-grandchildren.  Also missed by several nieces and nephews.  Predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law Dot and Jim Newell.

Mary grew up in a log cabin outside of Blyth – the cabin has been restored and is now located within the Blyth Fair Grounds.  Mary was a registered nurse for many years and began her career in Clinton.  She worked at South Huron Hospital as an obstetrics nurse, was also a private nurse for several families and worked at Queensway Nursing Home.  She and Harold enjoyed their winters in Florida and in later years Mary loved her social group at Donuts Now.

Friends may call at the Haskett Funeral Home, 370 William Street, Exeter (1 street west of Main), on Friday, April 26th from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM, where the funeral service will be held at 1:30 PM with Rev. Paul Ross officiating.  Interment Exeter Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.

Mary always reminded me that she was in the room when I was born in Exeter. Having got to know her over the last decade I am thankful that my parents had someone so kind and caring assisting on their special day. I am sure she has touched many people’s lives over the years and will be missed by many. My condolences to the Hockey family.

Dear Dennis and Paul and families:
We were sorry to hear of your mom’s death and you are in our thoughts and prayers. Mary was always so welcoming to us and such a caring person. I remember your family visits with us in Grand Bend when we were kids and our get togethers at your house. We always had lots of fun. I always picture your mom with a smile on her face and making sure everyone was looked after. I enjoyed talking to her at the coffeeshop here in the more recent years. These good memories are precious. We hope you find comfort in your memories too.
