With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Mona ‘Monnie’ Herr at Extendicare Haliburton, on Monday, December 29, 2025, in her 88th year. Loving wife of the late James (Jim) Herr (1957-2001) and the late Lindley Bales (2003-2025). Dear mother of Gary and Carol Herr of Haliburton. Cherished grandmother of James (Leanne) Herr of Orangeville and Natalie Herr (Chris Burton) of London, and revered great-grandmother of Isaiah, Braylon, Juliana, Caleb, Katelin, and Aveleigh. Survived by her sister-in-law Maxine Morrison and brother-in-law Dave Kostal, as well as many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, Garfield and Mary Ann Latta, as well as her siblings Harvey and Mayrene (Atkinson) Latta, Leona and Norm Amos, Dorothy and John Lauzon, Bob and Mary Latta, Norma and Bob Elliott, Marlene Kostal (and Carl Pringle), and her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Russ and Jean Herr, George and Shirley Herr, Doug and Sheila Herr, Murray and Kathie Herr, Jean and Bernie Jackson, Anna and Roger Trudgeon, Mabel and Everett Hardie, and Marion McIntyre.
Monnie was a professor of administrative studies at the University of Western Ontario, an avid golfer,
and a snowbird, spending most winters in Arcadia, Florida. She was greatly loved and will be missed
by those who knew her.
Friends and family may call at the Haskett Funeral Home, 223 Main Street, Lucan in the spring, date
to be determined, for a celebration of life, followed by interment at St. James Cemetery, Clandeboye. Please check back for updates.

choice would be appreciated by the family.

My condolences to all of Aunt Monnie’s family and friends. I remember her as an athletic woman with a great smile. Having a good sense of humour was a necessity considering she was married to a chronic comedian for so many years. ( Uncle Jim) Cheryl and I would meet them at the crack of dawn to golf at Cobble Hills. Aunt Monnie played very well while Uncle Jim looked for balls in the rough and woods. She will be missed and remembered with fondness.

Monnie will be fondly remembered as a hard worker. a loyal friend, an enthusiastic baseball player, She was my wedding attendant. She was a very faithful and conscientious caregiver as she and Jim battled a very serious Cancer battle. Well done Monnie. Sister-in law Maxine Morrison and daughter Lori

So sorry to hear of aunt Monnie’s passing. I will always remember her great sense of humour, her friendly smile, and her very distinctive voice. I saw lots of uncle Jim on the farm near Thorndale when I was a boy, and had the honour of being a member of Jim and Monnie’s wedding party. Sincere condolences to cousin Gary, to Carol, to their family, and to the Herr and Latta families. Monnie was a much loved aunt. She is missed, but lives on in our memories.

Gary, I will give you a hug when we see you in the spring. I always thought of your mom as my “young” aunt. I also went back in time and remembered when we Latta grandchildren would all get together, often at our grandparents, and have such good times.
