GARINTHER: Peacefully, at Palmerston and District Hospital, Palmerston on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, Maureen Florence (Heaney) Garinther of Grand Cove Estates, Grand Bend, formerly of London and Montreal, age 80. Beloved wife of the late Ronald “Ron” Charles George Garinther (2017). Loved mother and mother-in-law of Wendy and Dr. Steve Decker of Orleans, Glenn Garinther of London, Kimberley and Keith Detweiler of Drayton, Kathleen and Stuart Cheesmond of Kitchener. Cherished Mayme of Hannah, Chloe, Sydney, Halle, Calvin, Aidan, Carter and Quinn. Fondly remembered by her dear friend John Adams, also remembered by her niece Laura, nephews Stephen and Michael and their families. Predeceased by her parents Lawrence Edward and Irene Christie (Cameron) Heaney and brother Robert Edward Heaney. Maureen enjoyed a career as a gifted Elementary School Teacher, and touched the lives of many children. She also valued her time at home raising her four children. As well, she was a proud Member of the Catholic Women’s League for 33 years, with 2 separate terms as CWL President. Resting at the T. Harry Hoffman & Sons Funeral Home, Dashwood on Sunday, January 12, 2025 from 1 to 4 p.m. with Parish and CWL Prayers being offered at 3:45 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church, Grand Bend on Monday, January 13, 2025 at 11 a.m. The Rev. Fr. Tony Laforet Celebrant. Cremation with Interment Notre Dame des Neiges Cemetery, Montreal at a later date. If desired memorial donations (payable by cheque) to “Blessings” Foodbank, Zurich, the ALS Society or a charity of choice would be appreciated by the family.

As I absorb the loss of our CWL sister, your mother, your grandmother and a friend to many all I think about is the beautiful example she left us with. A most caring and gentle heart. Maureen was such a wise woman and a heart of gold.we had many a good laughs together with CWL activities and of course some very serious meetings on the executive. She really thought of the marginalized of society.
She will always be in my heart and I’m sure the hearts of many she touched.

We met Maureen through her late husband Ron 57 years ago. Ron and I were childhood friends and remained close until his passing in 2017. Maureen was a kind and gentle soul with a profound love of the church and her family. We were fortunate to spend time with her in April when we had lunch and shared a laugh or two. Maureen was the Godmother to our daughter Anne-Marie and a warm friend to me and my wife Midori. We are truly saddened by Maureen’s passing and would like to express our sincerest condolences to the Garinther family. Although we are unable to pay our respects in person, our thoughts and prayers are with Wendy, Glenn, Kim, and Kathleen and your families during this difficult time.

I met Maureen 7 years ago through our prayer shawl group and our love of needlework, she was an amazing knitter. We all loved stitching and chatting … sharing birthday celebratons and lunches.
Maureen always brought joy and cheer with a smile that spread to her eyes and her voice. I will always miss her in my life ❤️

Sending my love and sympathies to all of the Garinther family. My preteen years have memories of her in it, from swimming in the pool at the motel to being invited for dinner and having spaghetti and meatballs for the first time and she was shocked a 10 yr old never had that before. As an adult I would run into her from time to time and she would update me on everyone’s doings and be proud of all your accomplishments.
May her memories of her keep her story alive.

I first met Maureen when I was on a trip to Europe. Maureen went with Joan Brewer on the same trip. My friend, Irene and I meet your Mum and Joan on our tour, and we became friends. I live in Vancouver. Irene left Vancouver and moved to Tucson, but we all kept in touched with Christmas Letters, etc. with your Mum and Joan.
