I went to high school with Mike and in wintertime we often met up at house parties in town. We had great fun reciting Frank Zappa lyrics and generally goofing around. When I was back in the Bend, I’d run into him at the Legion and we always chatted. A good man, good memories of our times.

My heart is heavy hearing of Mike’s passing. Sending all my love to Tony, Carolyn, Julie, Phil, and the entire family. I will always be grateful to Mike for the beautiful gift he gave me — my sister Carolyn and brother Tony. Even though I hadn’t seen him in many years, his children became my family, and that bond has never faded. His love and legacy live on through them, and he will always hold a special place in my heart.

Known Mike all my life but was fortunate enough to get to know him very well the past ten twelve years or so. Mike always brought a sleeve of Blue Light and we drank them on the second hole at Oakwood. Sometimes he had enough for one on the third hole as well! Man , seems like yesterday , sad to see he’s gone. He called me Arnie (because of my clubs , not my skill level!) and I called him ‘Jack’ , mostly in memory of his Dad , but a bit because, it just seemed to fit.
Shared lots of hunting stories as well. That trip he did for many years with his friend moose hunting was indicative of how tough Mike was. Not for the faint of heart, and he wouldn’t miss it for the world.
Lots more to say , but I will end on this. He loved his family and friends, fiercely. Among them , his Brothers in his Union Life. Mike didn’t suffer fools lightly, and anyone who challenged him or his fellow union brothers
quickly found a fierce and staunch defender of his love for his Union membership. No one tread there a second time.
Mike , I will miss you , this is not how this was meant to play out. Such is life , plans go sideways sometimes , who knows why.
I’m not supposed to , but I am going to have a beer in your memory on the second hole at Oakwood , and only you and I will know why. Well , the other three will , I”ll bring one for them as well. That’s the way you would want it. So long old friend.
    Rich
