
DOUGLAS: Peacefully, in the early hours of Saturday, January 23, 2016, at her residence overlooking the Grand Bend Harbour and Lake Huron, Elia “Helen” Nazzarena Catarina (Miandro) Douglas, passed away, in the same manner she lived her life, with dignity and love for her family and life, at the age of 86. Beloved wife of 65 years to Melvin “Mel” Muir Douglas. Dear sister of Lita Miandro of St. Marys. Beloved mother and mother-in-law of Kristie and David McIndoe of Grand Bend. Cherished grams of Skyler McIndoe and treasured great-grandma of Mathias McNally-McIndoe. Fondly remembered by Andrew Hunt, Brooklyn Olsen and Presley Wellington. Remembered also by her nieces, nephews and their families. Predeceased by her parents Guilio and Assunta (Vesprini) Miandro. At Elia’s request cremation has taken place. A Memorial Visitation will be held at the T. Harry Hoffman & Sons Funeral Home, Dashwood on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Mel and Elia were long-time supporters of the Huron Country Playhouse and have only missed 1 theatre production since 1971. Elia was on the Huron Country Playhouse Board and the Ladies Guild and best friends with her local Bridge Ladies Group. The family business that Mel and Elia and their family have owned and operated for 59 years, Bonnie Doone Manor-on-the-Beach and the former Christmas Place in Grand Bend. In lieu of flowers, if desired, memorial donations, payable by cheque to O.S.P.C.A, Huron Country Playhouse or a charity of choice would be appreciated by the family.
