Passed away peacefully at Stratford General Hospital on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 of Egmondville at the age of 87. Beloved wife of the late Robert “Bob” Doig (2003). Proud mom of Debra and Rick Letton of London, Barb and Jamie Caldwell of Kippen, and Cary Doig of Egmondville. Adored grandma of Brittany Caldwell and Chris Decaluwe, and Amber and Shane Dougall and great-grandma of Rachael, Emily, and Megan Dougall. Dear sister and sister-in-law of Carol Neilson of St. Marys, Jake Marks of Exeter, and Joyce Doig of Seaforth. Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents Hartman and Leona Hiusser, and her siblings and their spouses; Dorothy Marks, Lola and Linc Rohfritsch, Phyllis and Harold Lamb, Keith and Betty Hiusser, Ken and Betty Hiusser, and Clayton Hiusser, as well as brothers-in-law Ken Doig, Roderick Doig, Eric Doig and sister-in-law Mary Doig.
Mom was very crafty. She has left us with many items that we will cherish for many years. Quilts, doilies, afghans, hand painted wood crafts. She also loved her beautiful gardens. One of Elsie’s accomplishments was to acquire her cooks’ papers in her fifties. She was a cook at the Seaforth Hospital until her retirement in 1998. Mom was a great cook and baker; she was known for her scones, butter tarts, pies, and shortbread cookies.
Keeping with Elsie’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family graveside service will be held at Egmondville Cemetery.
Donations to the Seaforth Community Hospital Foundation or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
Dr. Donald Farquhar

I have very fond memories of your mom Elsie. When I was at your home to pick up Deb she was so kind and always up for a chat. She was a creative lady who loved working with her flowers and doing crafts. I think the biggest thing I remember is her welcoming smile. What a beautiful soul.
Thinking of you all – Deb, Rick, Barb, Jamie, and Carey.
Take care

What beautiful tributes of your Mom.
As long time neighbours of your Mom and Dad, we have some lovely memories of them too. Your Dad always stopping whatever he was doing outside to have some great conversations with Wayne and him sharing some of his beautiful plants from their flowers beds with me when I was just getting mine started. And the wonderful porch visits I had with your Mom when she was well enough to sit out front and later sitting at her kitchen table enjoying a coffee with her. She always had lovely stories to tell and through them I could tell how proud she was of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will definitely be missed in the neighbourhood.
Our deepest sympathies to you Barb, Deb, Cary and families.
Always Wayne and Melita

Deb, Barb, Cary, Rick and Jamie – I am sorry to hear of Aunt Elsie’s passing. No matter how old our parents are or how old we are, it is still a difficult time in our lives. I know Brit and Amber and those little grand “girls” will miss their grandma and great grandma too. Elsie’s quiet presence belied her many talents. I remember the flowers – oh those beautiful flowers around Uncle Bob and Aunt Elsie’s house as well as across the street at Huissers’. I remember walking with Gail and my mom all the way to Egmondville for a cup of tea, clinging to Kenny’s stroller and wondering if we’d ever get there. I also remember Uncle Bob and Dad carrying us out to the freezing cold car late at night after a good family visit with cards, stories, and Elsie’s delicious desserts! Rest Elsie – I’ll remember your quiet smile.
