At Parkwood Institute, London, on Thursday, October 15, 2015, formerly of Lucan, in his 104th year. Beloved husband of the late Hilda (Nelson) Daley (1995). Dear father of Brian and Helen Daley, and Denise Foster and her dear friend Jim Stilson, all of London. Dear grandfather of Skye and Amanda. Dear brother of Frank Daley of Cincinnati, Ohio. Predeceased by his sister-in-law Dorothy. Sid was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Khartum Shrine, Mocha Temple, and the Royal Canadian Legion. Sid was an Ontario Provincial Police officer for over 30 years, retiring as Sergeant from the Lucan Detachment, and he was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Royal Canadian Navy.
Friends may call at the Haskett Funeral Home, 223 Main Street, Lucan on Sunday afternoon 2-4 PM. The funeral service will be held at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, 189 Main Street, Lucan on Monday, October 19th at 11 AM with The Rev’d Matthew Martin officiating. Interment St. James Cemetery, Clandeboye.
Donations to the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #540 Lucan would be appreciated by the family.

I would like to pass on sincere condolences to all the family. I feel I have a small connection to his career. I did not know Mr. Daley personally, but I believe he was a police constable in Schreiber, Ontario in 1946. I have spent the last 10 years collecting information and researching and incident that happened there in December of 1946. Constable Daley was instrumental in his duties as an officer of the province. Through much due diligence on his behalf and the other officers involved, justice prevailed. I have compiled my research into a small publication on my own. Ontario Provincial Police Officer “Curly” Daley will live on. I have the greatest respect for our Law Enforcement and the sacrifices they make on behalf of our safety.

Dear Brian and Denise – it has been a long, long time. Not sure if you even know that your dad and mom were my Godparents and that they stood up for my mom & dad when they got married – I have a great picture of the 4 of them together that day on August 4, 1947. Bruno and I had a great visit with your Dad a few months before he left his apartment in Lucan and many stories were told – especially OPP stories from Schreiber days! I last talked to “Curly” late this past summer and I could tell he was failing but he still knew my voice and was quick to say “Hello darling”. He had a wonderful full life and even when he reached 100 he was filling each day as much as he could with people, fun and events. In our younger years Sid was a good friend (as well as his wife Hilda) and fellow OPP officer of our dad, Roy Feeley and our mother Andree Feeley, Our good memories of him are still fresh and he and his wife will always remain special to all us girls. May you rest in peace Sid. Hilda is so ready to greet you and be by her side again. Our condolences to all his family.

I was very sorry to hear of Sid’s passing. Many years ago I picked him up at his house and he was Santa to the delight of many classes at McGillvray Public School. He was always thinking of others. My brother was telling me about being at his retirement party
from the police force and the impression he made on him. He certainly did a lot for Lucan. He will be missed.

We just received the OPPA email about your Dad’s passing. We are very sorry to hear this. Now I did not know Sid but I am sure that I have heard my late father, Douglas Hillman speak of Sid many times. He always talked about Terrace Bay and Schreiber and the logging camps. My father was also an OPP and joined the force just after World War 2. He was posted to Terrace Bay Detachment and shared living quarters at the back of the office with Stuart Loree. My father’s OPP career took him from Terrace Bay to Beamsville, Burlington, Brantford, Bracebridge and Barrie. My father, Doug Hillman passed away 7 years ago in Collingood. I just thought I would share this memory with you as I remember Dad talking about Sid.

So sorry to hear of Sid’s passing. When he came into the dental office he always had a smile and lots of jokes. One day , when his brother was visiting they came in to try to get Dr.Larry to fix a pair of dentures . The dentures were made of wood, there were lots of laughs that day.

Sorry to hear of Sid’s passing but pleased to see that he lived such a long, full life. In my time in Lucan I fondly remember Sid’s visits to my chiropractic office-he usually walked there, he always had a smile and a story and sometimes was accompanied by his brother, Frank. What a great man he was. You must have many wonderful memories.

Sid was a wonderful and caring person, i made a point to go see him everyday that I was in at Parkwood, I first got to know him through the Legion sponsored Bingos down in WCW. I have the photo of him dropping the puck at the Memorial games as my background on my computer at home, I just wish I kept a copy of the ones I had enlarged for him.
As long as we live, Sid too shall live, for he is a part of us, as we remember Him. Rest in Peace my Friend, you may be gone but never forgotten.

We really got to know Sid many many years ago, when we were involved in the Legion executive. Sid had a great passion for the Legion, and what it stood for, and was devoted to helping out in any way he could. And he did so tirelessly for so many years. Many will cherish, as we do, the countless yrs. he donned his Santa suit and entertained the kiddies, as he called them. Our daughter fondly recalls the yr. Sid asked her to be his elf. He loved the annual golf tourney and I can see him now in his red plaid pants & white cleated shoes rarin’ to go. I was honoured to be ‘hired’ by Sid & Hilda as their housecleaner, & the moment I would arrive he’d have lunch all ready for Hilda & I whilst we did the daily jumble in the newspaper. “The cleaning can wait, I have to feed my gals”, he’d say. And when Sid and his ”little brother”, as Frank was referred to, got together every Remembrance Week before their trek to France to honour their fallen brother killed in WWII, there was always a night for a con-flab at the Legion, a few drinks, lots of laughs, and plenty of jokes. I still have every saved Christmas card, (our annual ritual). You touched so many lives Sid Daley…we are honoured to have known you, and you will forever will be remembered.

So sorry to hear of your loss.At x-mas in 1981 your dad came out to the Coughlin farm on x-mas eve dressed up as Santa Claus. The grandkids just stared at him in awe as he read them the night before x-mas. He sure looked like the real thing even for the adults. He will surely be missed by a lot of people. One of the most difficult things about being a Clergperson is that you can’t be everywhere you want to be, and this is one of those times when events clash. Sid was a dear friend and I would dearly like to be present for his funeral and say a prayerfull goodby to him as we bid him God speed and may the Lord take you into his presence as servant worthy of beginning honoured. We have to go to see a dear friend in Michigan who has recently lost her husband, and they too we dear friends. Please know that we are with you all in thought and prayer.
