CORDELL: Susan Jane

CORDELL: Peacefully and surrounded by family, at South Huron Hospital, Exeter, on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, Susan Jane Cordell (nee Patterson), of Grand Bend, age 70. Forever beloved wife, best friend, and soulmate of Ross Allen Cordell. Dearest mother of Lisa and Michael Goulet, Jeff and Danielle Cordell, and Craig and Emilie Cordell, all of London. Adoring grandmother to Luke, Rachelle, Marnie, Charlie, Henry, and Clara. Admired sister and sister-in-law to Rick and Liz Patterson of London, Anne and Jeff Goarley of Chatham, and Rob and Nancy Cordell, of London. Aunt Susan will be fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews. Cherished daughter of the late Donald and Winnifred Patterson.

Susan lovingly raised her three children and enjoyed cruising, cooking, reading, bicycling, sewing, and dancing. She was a proud alumni of Brescia University College and spent many years working for the Canadian Bible Society and Grand Bend Area Community Health Centre. She was a loyal member of her book club and gourmet dinner club, along with the Grand Bend Horticultural Society, Huron Shores United Church Prayer Shawl Ministry, and St. Peterโ€™s Lutheran Church.

Cremation has taken place according to Susanโ€™s wishes. Visitation will be held at T. Harry Hoffman & Sons Funeral Home, Dashwood, on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. with the funeral taking place at St. Peterโ€™s Lutheran Church, Zurich, on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. Masks for both the Visitation and Funeral Service are encouraged.  Susan loved beautiful clothing and jewellery. We ask that you wear your favourite colour or outfit in celebration of how she lived her life.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations (payable directly) would be appreciated by the family to St. Peterโ€™s Lutheran Church, Zurich, or the South Huron Hospital Foundation, Exeter.

Anne, my prayers are with you and your sister, Susan’s family. What an amazing legacy she has left as she lived life to the full- in love, joy, service. I am almost certain that I met her at the Canadian Bible Society Bookstore in London even before I met you. She was always so helpful as I often had unusual requests for help.

    Dear Ross and Family:
Deepest sadness on the passing of our sister in law. Susan was always fun to be around, lots of laughter and her caring personality were many of the ‘gifts’ she shared with us and others. Thankfully we have many great memories of our family gatherings over the years. Susan was an awesome cook and many of our ‘favourite recipes’ are the ones Susan brought to our gatherings and we continue to make.

Susan you will remain forever in our hearts and you will never be forgotten.
Rest in peace…until we meet again.
    Love Nancy, Rob and family

    Dear Ross and Family,

I am so very saddened to learn of Sue’s passing. My humblest regards, with warmest thoughts and kindest wishes to all.
I attended Grade 8 at Wortley Road Public with Sue, and we journeyed through our South Collegiate eras at the same time.
Years later we reconnected by happenstance, and I had the good fortune to meet “her Ross”.
More recently, through Sue’s long-term friend, Leslie, I viewed a photo of Ross and Sue’s now grown and extended family.
Sue was so very deserving of her good and true life, such that her legacy WILL continue via her lovely and loving family.

On behalf of the Grand Bend Prayer Shawl group, I would like to extend our sincere sympathy to Susan’s family. Susan was a valuable member of our group and we always enjoyed her smiles and visits at our meetings. Susan created many beautiful shawls which brought much comfort to others. She will be missed.

Sue and I grew up on Cathcart St. We were a band of only 4 who went from K to 13 together. Fond memories of her smile and great school work. Had our first “mixed” party together listening to Beatles music. In adult life I saw Sue at the Bible society, embroidery at Masonville Mall,, and South reunions. Now we share a Lutheran connection as well. A real gentlewoman

I met Susan in 1990 when our babies first started school together. Over all the years since, our friendship with her and with Ross grew and blossomed and deepened. Among the thousands of pictures of Susan in my head some favourites include her laughing at Gourmet dinners, sharing her opinion on our latest book at book club, greeting my daughter and son in law at their wedding and dancing with her beloved sons at their weddings. Farewell Brown Eyed Girl- we loved you and miss you with aching hearts already.
