COLLINS: Randy Charles

June 26, 2023 By 69 Condolences

COLLINS: Randy Charles

COLLINS:  Peacefully, “having fought the good fight and finished the race”, at London Health Sciences Centre – University Hospital, London, on Monday, June 26, 2023, Randy Charles Collins of London, age 77.  Beloved husband of Audrey (Couture) Collins.  Loved father and father-in-law of Charles “Chuck” and Karrie Collins of St. Thomas, Rebecca (Collins) and Gregg Gilmore and Gordon Collins all of London.  Cherished grandpa of Amanda and Derrick Nethercott, Rachel and Chad Doran and Abigail “Abi” Collins.  Treasured great grandpa of Hunter, Hailey, and Harper.  Dear brother and brother-in-law of Jim and Jacintha Collins of St. Thomas, Tom and Lorraine Collins of Maidstone, Katie Swackhamer of London, Ruthanne Miller, Ruby and Bill Vander Veen, Rachel, and Ed Gibbs all of Cottam, Rita and Gord Duncan of Kingsville, Rose Rawlins, Joe Couture both of Cottam.  Remembered by his many nieces, nephews, and their families.  Predeceased by his parents Gordon Thomas and Gladys Jean Mary (Levi) Collins, father-in-law and mother-in-law Joseph Felix and Josie (Swackhamer) Couture, brothers-in-law Larry Swackhamer, Jamie Couture, Lyle Miller, Gary Rawlins, and sister-in-law Lynn Couture.

Randy firmly believed: “Every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father.”  He knew these gifts included his bride; his beloved family; and the many successful business ventures he started, acquired, and dynamically grew.  His journey began farming in Essex County and Huron County, before embracing retail as his passion when Randy and Audrey founded Hully Gully in Varna, ON. Throughout his 52 successful years, over 100,000 customers came to appreciate his continual admonition to “have fun” while “treating others as you would like to be treated”.  His greatest pleasure was to walk the retail floor, greeting new customers as well as reconnecting with those who had bought 30, 40 or 50 years before.

Dozens of charitable organizations have been the beneficiaries of the Collins generosity.  In addition to frequent direct financial support, annual events such as last weekend’s Freedom Ride (in support of Teen Challenge), and the Fall Colour Ride which to date has raised $325,000 for the Children’s Health Foundation, continue to show Collins never ending community appreciation.  On Hully Gully’s 50th anniversary, London South was the recipient with the creation of a handicapped accessible children’s playground on Southdale at Bostwick.  This is in addition to 6 Saturn playgrounds they previously funded.  The family requests those who wish to express sympathy, in lieu of flowers consider a donation to Harvest Hands or Faithville.”

Visitors are welcome on Tuesday, July 4, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, where the Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, at 2 p.m.  Pastor Ron Baker Officiant. Cremation to follow.   Arrangements entrusted to the T. Harry Hoffman & Sons Funeral Home, Dashwood.

Such a tragic loss to our business community. Randy epitomized business excellence and was an outstanding model for the true meaning of entrepreneurship. I had the opportunity on more than a few occasions to take a call from Randy who wanted to talk about the state of our local economy, local and provincial politics and most of all, how we would could make our community a better place for all. A generous and caring man who did it his way – the right way. London and indeed all of Canada need a lot more Randy Collins in them. My sincere condolences to his family and friends.

    Audrey and family,
The comments left by friends of Randy say it all. He was a loving family man, a mentor, a generous kind man who gave to his community and loved the Lord. What a truly outstanding example for family, employees, community and friends. I have fond memories of the Collins family at Hully Gully Varna and Huron Centennial School. Thinking of all of you at this sad time.

To Audrey and all the Collins family, Jane and I have been so blessed by Randy and Audrey over the years at LGT and with the greater Christian brotherhood of London. He has always been such a generous and giving example of a true follower of Jesus. His humility and faith in what God could do if he (Randy) did his part was a valuable lesson to me. We know we will see him again as we have the same hope he has in his loving Lord. However our hearts and prayers go out to you as the separation is real even if only for a short time. Love, Ken and Jane Raymer

As the current Chair of the Impactus BOD I am truly mourning the loss of Randy. I was privileged to know Randy on several levels. His influence, in many of life’s arenas was palpable. I believe to my core that without Randy’s faithfulness and service to this ministry there might very well have been no ministry and BOD for me to serve in. Thank you Randy and thank you Lord! Grace and Peace in the days ahead to his wife Audrey and their entire family, the Hully Gully “family”, and all those affected by Randy’s passing. ¶
And now, dear brothers and sisters, we want you to know what will happen to the believers who have died so you will not grieve like people who have no hope.

    July 3, 2023 at 6:16 PM

The Market family were very saddened to hear of the loss of this great man! We have so many memories of Randy and Dad and “snowmobile” racing. When mom passed away Randy and Audrey had such lovely words to say about her that helped ease our hearts. It was always great seeing him at the little Baptist church when they were at their cottage. What a great “man! He would always say “I would be duck soup without the Lord”. We all would be. He has begun his new life walking along with Jesus!
Blessings and Prayers to the whole family.
    With sincere condolences

I am blessed to have known Randy for decades and his passing leaves a big hole in my life. I appreciated him taking my son Chris on as a co-op student 16 years ago at Suzuki on Wharncliffe road. That step of faith in our son launched him on a career trajectory that now has him selling Porsche products in southern Florida. Randy was a mentor who earned the right to ‘speak directly’ to me. I was honored to be invited in to the Tuesday morning ISI meetings over a year ago as the prayers and planning for what would become ReBoot 2023 took place. His passing leaves a legacy that I am humbled and grateful to be part of. We will do our best to hold the torch high that he has passed onto us.

We continue to hold up Audrey and all of Randy’s family to the Lord whom he loved so much. Well done Randy, you have been a good and faithful servant and brother to countless men, including me.

We are so saddened to hear of the passing of the amazing and irreplaceable Randy Collins, whose impact on the life and spirit of the London community is beyond measure. I personally owe a deep debt of gratitude to Randy for his personal encouragement and support through the years. And I know I am only one of vast numbers of people who were blessed by Randy’s enthusiasm and by his strong faith, kindness and compassion. It was a privilege to be there as a city official in the early days of Randy and Audrey’s generous sponsorship of new playground facilities in the City of London. This was their initiative and such an example to others in the community of what it means to love your city and its people. Jack and I extend our deepest sympathies to Audrey and family and to all who will greatly miss this dedicated man of God. Sincerely, Dianne Haskett and Jack Kotowicz

MY CONDOLENCES TO AUDREY AND FAMILY- I HAVE WRITTEN A SMALL TRIBUTE .

I AM SO GRATEFUL TO HAVE KNOWN AND CALLED RANDY COLLINS MY FRIEND
AND MY ADMIRATION AND RESPECT FOR HIM WILL NEVER END

HE STRIVED VERY HARD TO ACHIEVE HIS DREAM
ENGAGING WITH OTHERS AND FORMING A TEAM

HE LOVED HIS BUSINESS AND WORKED HARD EVERY DAY
THE ONLY PROBLEM WAS IT WAS DIFFICULT FOR HIM TO GET AWAY

HE WAS ALWAYS SO THOUGHTFUL AND EVERYONE’S FRIEND
AND ANY DISAGREEMENTS HE WOULD BE THE FIRST TO MEND

RANDY WAS COMPASSIONATE, HUMBLE, CONSIDERATE AND KIND
AND A MORE GENEROUS MAN YOU COULD NEVER FIND

HE WAS HUMOROUS AND UPBEAT AND NEVER A FROWN
AND HE LOVED TO GIVE KIDS A BRAND NEW PLAYGROUND

THE LOVE THAT HE AND HIS WIFE AUDREY SHARED WAS AS DEEP AS THE OCEAN
AND NO ONE COULD QUESTION THE MAGNITUDE OF HIS DEVOTION

RANDY WAS A VERY RELIGIOUS MAN AND LIVED HIS FAITH EVERY DAY
AND WHETHER AT HOME OR ELSEWHERE HE WOULD ALWAYS PRAY

HIS PASSING IS A GREAT LOSS AND HE WILL BE MISSED BY ALL
BUT WHEN HE GREETS SAINT PETER HE WILL BE ABLE TO STAND TALL

RANDY’S SPIRIT AND OUR MEMORIES WILL LIVE ON WITH US WHEREVER
SO FOR ALL WHO CARED AND LOVED HIM THE MEMORIES WILL BE FOREVER

I have many fond memories of growing up in Maidstone across the road from the Collins’ farm – Gordon, Gladys, Randy, Jim &Tom. Growing up in the country was anything but dull with these guys around. Even after leaving the area, I was well aware of Randy’s business successes and his outstanding generosity in the community. He obviously touched so many lives. Our deepest condolences to Audrey, Jim and Jacintha, Tom and Lorraine and your extended families. You are all in our prayers.

Have known Randy for decades and have had the pleasure of working both with him and for him during this time. A more unique high energy person there never was… whether doing business or promoting his many pursuits outside of the commercial realm. A constant homily was the need to sublimate ego as he truly believed a humble and grateful person could accomplish much. Much he did accomplish, with his vision obvious in the way he structured and staffed Hully Gully as it is now well situated to thrive in the decades to come just as it did when he had his hand on the tiller… What a testimony to what can be accomplished!

I was saddened to read of Randy’s death this week. He had a large and positive impact on many lives, including mine in my role as ad sales guy, calling on Randy and his staff weekly for more than a decade. He was of course dynamic and attentive to details, and always considerate and engaged, despite his busy world. More importantly, he wore his love for the business outwardly, and encouraged the best from his staff, his family, and even the ad guy. His enthusiasm and energy was a force to cope with, and to tap into and enjoy. My thoughts are with Audrey, Becky, Gordon and Chuck.

Dear Audrey, Chuck, Becky, Gord and families. Our sympathies on the passing of Randy. While he was a larger than life community leader and business man, he was your dear husband and Dad, and your lives will never be the same without him. We knew all of you from Hully Gully in Varna, and spent many hours working with your team on some of our first jobs as teenagers. We both have great memories of those race Sundays and other events. Randy and all of you were wonderful to work with, and great neighbours and classmates. You will have so many special memories, especially having worked along side him all these years. We hope those memories bring you some peace in the difficult times ahead. From Dale Stephenson and Sandra Coleman.

I was very sorry to learn of Randy’s death, and I offer my sincere sympathies and prayers to Audrey and the entire Collins family.
Randy was a devoted Christian gentleman of incredible energy and great generosity. I had the pleasure to work closely with him and many other people for one year as we worked to defend true marriage during 2006.

He put his time, his money and his energy into defending his Christian beliefs, and I had great respect for him.
He was a family man first and foremost, and he made an enormous contribution to his community and his country. Canada needs more people like Randy Collins and he will be sorely missed.

    .Rest in peace Randy!

    Audrey, Chuck, Becky and Gord,

We are so sad to hear about the loss of Randy. Hully Gully holds a special place in our lives. The weekend dances at the chalet were full of fun and friendship. The Stanley Township crowd sure knew how to party and Randy and Audrey were not only perfect hosts they made sure to get a dance or two in before last call. Noone could ever figure out where they got all that energy. The move to London brought lots more fun including the all Saturn nights at the drive in. It was so nice to connect recently and get caught up on the Collins family. Rest comfortably Randy, you have earned it.

I send my condolences to the Collins Family…
Randy and Audrey were the very first people that I was introduced to back in 2005 when I relocated my family to London to marry my late husband Ted Wernham who was Randy’s best friend and confidant, they certainly had a special bond between them….Ted and I had many exciting and good times with Randy and Audrey at their cottage, where Randy let my two young sons drive his boat, the fun they had while being pulled behind the boat in a inner-tube, riding on the SUV’s, and my boy’s of course helped in building some of the Saturn Playgrounds….also many fond memories of all the dinner’s and events that my late husband and I were part of with Randy and Audrey…
Randy was a very kind and generous man and he will be sadly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him. I’m certain that Ted and Randy are now re-united with our father in heaven..

My deepest condolences to you all on Randy’s sudden passing. Our hearts were saddened by the news of the loss of such an incredible man of faith and influential leader. It is not a stretch to say that the ministry of Impactus | Promise Keepers Canada would not be here today were it not for men like Randy Collins, who stepped up and stepped in to make a difference. There was not a call or meeting that I have had with Randy that he didn’t stop to pray and encourage me in my own leadership. I’m grateful for his life, his passion, and his legacy.

Dear Audrey and Family, I including am very sorry for your loss. Randy is surely missed. I so appreciated his deep faith and desire to honour the Lord in all facets of his life. Randy’s devotion to you was ever present. How many times did Randy say, “I need to talk this over with Audrey before we make a decision”? Randy so loved his children, and relished seeing them build their own lives. With Audrey, Randy sought to advance the perspectives which held dear, honouring both the greatest and second commandments. Randy gave glory in all he did to God the Promise Keeper and to Jesus, the Promised One. May his memory continue to bless you as Randy is now with the Lord.

My sincere condolences to Becky and your family. My fond memory of Mr. Collins is when he took me into his Varna home after he came out to notice my camping tent and my YZ motocross bike completely drenched after a major rain storm during practice runs at Hully Gully. Mr. Collins was a kind, generous man whom helped me, not knowing who I was, had never met me before, and offered his support under a dry roof. I will never forget his kind gesture after 47 years. Rest in peace Mr. Collins and thanks again!

Audrey, Chuck, Karrie, Becky, Gregg, Gord & families
Randy was a strong Christian man who shared his faith by the way he lived daily and by his spoken word.
My husband, David Libby was honoured to be his 1st cousin. SInce David has passed Randy & Audrey have taken me
under their wings and helped me immensely on this journey. I will miss him immensely but am comforted by the fact that
he is now with his Lord. May memories ease your pain.

    What a Legend.
Randy’s light shines brightly in all of us.
A minute with him made you a better person… a better friend… a better professional… and made you feel like a SOMEBODY… and then, as it turns out, YOU have done the same for another as well… Whether you know that or not.

    His light glows bright.

Can you go a week without quoting him or a quote he gave you? I can’t.

Gord and his father Randy are my mentors. They have largely influenced to who I am as a person, how I treat others, how I represent my team members, and provided an example of how I could be even better. Anyone in this family will also do the same, and have for many people. The Collins Family has made a difference in many lives.

The world is at a loss, but, it got way more than it bargained for with Randy. He was a locomotive (and he would gladly let you hitch your cart to him). He gave you an opportunity to be apart of making a difference, and, making memories in other people lives, all the while making a life for yourself & your family…. AND always keep moving forward, with honesty, integrity, and a personable approach, with humility & reverence… and this shall live on with everyone who he has touched.

Randy, I strive to represent you everyday. Thank you for giving me your time and your light. I will miss you and honour you.

PS – We will never forget that smile or the glimmer in your eye. Randy you have been a very special person who made everyone feel special… a true example and a leader. RIP.

I worked with Randy and family for a couple of years in the automotive business. He got it! He knew how to lead by example, which is something I will remember forever. To Audrey and the family, please accept my most sincere condolences.

Audrey, Chuck, Karrie, Becky, Gregg, Gord and the extended family: I knew Randy for over 35 years. We shared common experiences in the Automotive and Powersports business. In addition, we both served together on committees and the board of OADA/TADA. I found Randy to be truthful, faithful, righteous, fair and a wonderful person. That combination is very rare in today’s world. He always told it like it is. I respected that and always enjoyed our conversations. I will miss him. My heartfelt condolences go out to the entire family.
