Please forgive me for this late message, but I’ve only just found out today that my dear friend Bets has passed, as the Christmas card I sent her was returned to me with “deceased” written on the envelope. I suspected she wasn’t well when she didn’t sent her usual newsy Christmas email, but did not expect such heartbreaking news.

I live in BC and met Bets when we both worked at the Law Courts in New Westminster in the 90’s. She was so bubbly and fun to work with, we soon became good friends and found our shared sense of humour made the work day so much better. We also shared many an order of poutine! I missed her when she moved to Vernon, but my husband and I enjoyed visiting her and her husband Jim there. She loved the sun, and loved her pets, and was just a joy to spend time with. Unfortunately, I was never able to visit once they moved to Ontario, but we’ve kept in touch throughout the years by email. She was an amazing woman who handled all her heartache and adversity with the utmost of grace and courage. I feel blessed to have been her friend.

My deepest condolences to all who knew and loved her.

Thinking of you as you grieve Betty’s passing and honour her life.

Back when I was working at Cheshire, she was part of my regular afternoon rotation. She was a pleasure to work and chat with. Postive and supportive, she will be missed. My condolences to the family. Rest in peace Betty, you and Luna were always a pleasant visit.

Just reading of the passing of my Surrey BC friend and Fraser Glen neighbour, Betty Chappell!

Memories of sun tanning, shared meals, warm hugs, a big smile, and laughter tumble about in my head.

I miss you all the way to Ontario. You are home at last! โค๏ธ

I met Betty in the south end of London when she moved here, to be closer to her Son. She had her car and a walker at the time. She enjoyed playing cards and various games.
We became quite close. After a fall, put her in Parkwood for months we would travel the grounds of Parkwood. Betty loved to be outside in the sunshine. I always got her a hot chocolate.
Sometimes we went for lunch near the apartment , me running behind her in the wheelchair.
Every year I looked forward to her yearly letter.. Betty was very prolific and I used to tell her she could be a writer. She said no way, I hate writing those letters. We always laughed about that.
Betty you will be missed. Love you my friend.
My deepest condolences to Ted and the family.
