BRENNER: Marlene Anne (Storey)

June 5, 2025 By 18 Condolences

BRENNER: Marlene Anne (Storey)

BRENNER:  Unexpectedly, but peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family, at South Huron Hospital, Exeter, on Thursday, June 5, 2025, Our Matriarch, Marlene Anne (Storey) Brenner of Grand Bend, age 85.  Beloved wife of 65 years to William โ€œBillโ€ Ezra Brenner.  Loved mother and mother-in-law of David and Bev Brenner of Ottawa, Pam Brenner of Grand Bend, Doug and Fran Brenner of Grand Bend, Cathy Hurley and Mike Van Alstine of Grand Bend.  Cherished Grandma of Colleen Brenner, Cynthia and Tyler Pelow, Tim and Jasmine Rood, Chris and Mary Rood, Ryan Rood, Michelle and Bryce Bumstead, Brad and Amanda Rood, Scott and Kelley Brenner, Jennifer Brenner and fiancรฉ Mike Moore, Jocelyn Brenner and Justin VanderZanden, Leanne Brenner and Ben Kobe, Olivia Hurley and Isabella โ€œBellaโ€ Hurley.  Treasured Great-Grandma โ€œGGโ€ of Austin Pelow, Wesley Pelow, Owen Rood, Logan Rood, Nathan Rood, Connor Rood, Mason Rood, Quinnlyn Rood, Landon Bumstead, Tanner Bumstead, Ellie Rood and Brody Brenner. Dear sister and sister-in-law of the late Betty (April 8, 2025) and Jack Woodcroft of London, Brenda and Jim Hennessey of Exeter and Gary and Rue-Anne Brenner of Grand Bend.  Remembered by her nieces, nephews and their families, special friend Donna Couse and many close friends.  Marlene will be greatly missed by her favourite canine grand-pups Freya and Sophie.  Predeceased by her mother Hazel (Witty) Mitchell (1991), father George Storey (1982), brother Harry Storey (1959), son-in-law Jerry Hurley (2007), and grand-daughter-in-law Joyce Thomas Rood (2019).  At Marleneโ€™s request cremation will take place.  A Celebration of Marleneโ€™s Life will be held at their home, Grand Bend, on Saturday, July 19, 2025 from 1 to 5 p.m.  Marlene put on a valiant 15 year battle with Multiple Myeloma and surpassed the life expectancy estimation.  She loved the water and the annual boat trip to North Channel and the 30 Thousand Islands just wonโ€™t be the same.  Marlene spent one summer trying to water-ski, with a lot of patience and perseverance she was finally able to get up, and this is just one example of her determination.  She also spent many summers helping her mother-in-law Evelyne with the rentals at the Gables.   Family and friends were important to Marlene and Bill.  Any family gathering was not complete without a game of cards and a glass of wine, it didnโ€™t matter the game, she was at the table ready for anyone to join, and her weekly bridge group was a highlight of her week.  โ€œOur Family Chain is broken and nothing seems the same… โ€“ Ron Tranmerโ€ Arrangements entrusted to the T. Harry Hoffman & Sons Funeral Home, Dashwood.  If desired, memorial donations (payable directly) to the London Health Sciences Centre โ€“ Multiple Myeloma or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.

Dear Bill and the entire Brenner Family

So sorry to hear about Marleneโ€™s passing. She was an amazing woman full of life and who can forget her laughter?

I have many fond memories starting when she was our Explorer and CGIT leader at the United Church. She also was a member of the choir with many beautiful solos.
I babysat for her when you lived in the apartment that is now the Lakehound.
Marlene was a dear friend to my Mom, Eveleen Jennison and they shared lots of card games and fun times in Florida together.
I also gifted our dog Heidi to your family and I know you all had wonderful memories with her at home and out in the boat.
Thanks for all the wonderful childhood memories and enjoy your heavenly card games.

    Sincerely
    Jean Mason
