I started riding with Adriaan Brand as a teenager, and his guidance sparked a love of horses that has stayed with me for over 25 years. I still ride today, and I often think of the start he gave me. Forever grateful. Carol-Anne Kemp

I was very sorry to hear of Mr Brand’s passing. I was a student of his at Stephen Central and also took horseback riding lessons with him for several years as a child. I will always remember his kindness and patience. He loved his horses, and he loved teaching others to love and care for them too. I still think fondly of Bint and Blue – two beautiful horses who were every bit as gentle and patient as their owner.
He helped me work through my nervousness around horses, always encouraging me just enough to step outside my comfort zone so I could grow. He was the same as a teacher at Stephen: calm, steady, and supportive.
My condolences to his family and friends. I’ve no doubt the horses he loved will miss him dearly as well.

I met Adriaan at my daughters first show at Western fair he introduced himself to her and welcomed her to the show. He was never to busy to help anyone or share his wealth of knowledge with them. He was one of a kind and will be missed. Ride free Adriaan

First of all I would like to extend my deepest and most sincere condolences to the family of this amazing man. He was a man of integrity and compassion. Not only did he care for his beloved horses but he cared for the people around him. Teaching wasn’t just his job…. It was his way of life… helping others. Adriaan had a heart of gold. I’m honoured to say I had the chance to know him and ride with him. He cared so much. He will most definitely be missed. I caught myself watching the videos of myself riding along side him and the other students and finding myself in awe at just how much he taught me. Thank you so much Adriaan for taking so much time out of your day to teach not only me but sooo many others. Heaven has gained an amazing soul.
