BENDER: Peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones, at Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital, Strathroy, on Sunday, April 2, 2023, Crystal Lee (Cowan) Bender, of Grand Bend, age 63. Beloved wife of Randall “Randy” L. Bender. Loved mother and mother-in-law of Mallory MacDonald of Peterborough, Daniel and Stephanie MacDonald of Port Moody, British Columbia. Cherished grandma of Arwyn MacDonald. Forever loved daughter of the late Leonard “Len” Henry (2020) and Wilma Minlue Anne (Walters) Cowan of Grand Bend. Dear sister and sister-in-law of Tony and Sue Cowan of Aylmer, Gary and Linda Bender, Bruce and Marlene Bender all of New Hamburg and Gloria Bender of British Columbia. Remembered by her nieces, nephews and their families. At Crystal’s request, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of her Life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion – Branch 498, Grand Bend on Saturday, June 17, 2023 from 1 to 5 p.m. Arrangements entrusted to the T. Harry Hoffman & Sons Funeral Home, Dashwood. Crystal and Randy split their time between Grand Bend and Bradenton, Florida where Crystal enjoyed the sun and sand of her favourite beaches on Anna Maria Island and at home in Grand Bend. If desired, memorial donation (payable directly) to Royal Canadian Legion Br 498, Grand Bend Building Fund (for a tax receipt please make cheque payable to Municipality of Lambton Shores with a note for the Grand Bend Legion Building Fund) or a charity of choice would be appreciated by the family.

Crystal and I were girlfriends for over 50 years. We shared our teens together. I have fond memories of spending summers at the cottage and singing songs while Crystal played the guitar. We cooked bread in the pie irons over a camp fire.
