    Baling Hay

I have many fond memories of Rosaire and one of them I would like to share. I had the opportunity to work for Rosaire driving tractor, treating beans (he was proud of winning awards at the Royal Canadian Agricultural Fair), digging out collapse field tiles and baling hay. Rosaire’s reputation for hard work was legendary! July, prime haying season, would find me at Rosaire’s giving him a hand after supper bringing the bales to the barn. Rosaire didn’t need an elevator – instead he’d use a hay fork. He’d pick up a bale with the fork, give it a bit of a swing to get the fork handle to bend, then fling the bale up to me in the mow. His method was much faster than an elevator as the bales were coming to me fast and furious. I had to keep an eye out because they were coming at such a velocity they’d knock me over! I thought I was in pretty good shape but after running back and forth through the mow I was pretty much winded by the time the last projectile came sailing at me! The system worked quite well as we were able to put four or five hundred bales in the barn in the evening. I looked forward to working with Rosaire as he always impressed me with what he could do.

When I glanced through the paper last night, I was sad to see Rosaire’s name. It brought back all the memories of him and Leonard together. They were very good friends.
We are thankful that he had a long life and now will be at peace.
My prayers are with you and his family and friends.

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of my good friend and role model, Rosaire. His presence and strength were only surpassed by his genuine kindest and compassion. I will never forget all that he did for me and my family. He not only taught me how to put in an honest day’s work but demonstrated to me how to conduct my life in an honourable and principled manner. Rosaire was a true gentleman in every sense of the word and he inspired me to strive for the same. Deloris, Albena and Linda you have my deepest sympathy.
