BAKER: Margaret (Woodburn) of Hensall

October 20, 2025 By Haskett Funeral Home 103 Condolences

BAKER: Margaret (Woodburn) of Hensall

Passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side at South Huron Hospital, Exeter on Sunday, October 19, 2025 at the age of 86. Beloved wife of the late William โ€œBillโ€ Baker for over 65 years. Loving mother of Tammy Preszcator (Markus), Robert and Jackie Baker, and Terry and Karen Baker. Proud grandma of Megan (JR), Amber; Gabrielle, Dominique; Katie (Stephen), and Collin and great-grandma of Emilia, William; Marshall, Violet; and Olivia. Dear sister of Marlene Turner, and Bill Woodburn (Carolyn), and sister-in-law of Betty Grenier, Greta Baker, and Bill Brown. Fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents Lisle and Evelyn (Isaac) Woodburn, parents-in-law Robert and Clara (Meade) Baker, and siblings-in-law Ron, Irene, Glen, Meade, Bruce, Austin, Robert, Wanda, Clara, Gladys, John, and Murray.

Margaret was a dedicated educator, she spent many years teaching Kindergarten to Grade 2 at Huron Centennial School, sharing her patience, kindness, and love of learning with countless children. Even in her spare time, she continued to nurture young minds through tutoring. She had many passions, including painting, gardening, knitting, and music, and was a constant source of encouragement, following her family to support their many sports and hobbies. She and her loving husband Bill enjoyed golfing together and spending winters in Florida, where they made many cherished memories. Above all, she adored childrenโ€”especially her grandchildrenโ€”whose visits always brought a smile to her face. Her warmth, creativity, and deep love for her family will be remembered always.

Cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held at a later date. Inurnment Exeter Cemetery.

A public celebration of life for both Margaret and Bill will be held at Haskett Funeral Home, 456 Main Street South, Exeter on Saturday, October 25th from 12 โ€“ 1 PM.

Donations to Alzheimer Society โ€“ Southwest Partners or Exeter Villa – Activation Fund would be appreciated by the family.

We just seemed to be in great company with several ladies that we both knew from the golf course, Debโ€™s pool in Exeter, and then we enjoyed our monthly get together for a coffee and this ended up with many lunches. Thus we became known as the โ€˜Senior Mermaidsโ€™. Thanks for the memories!

    October 22, 2025 at 5:39 AM

Our most sincere condolences to all who knew and loved ‘Mrs. Baker’. Marg was a Carmel Presbyterian Lady, one of those serving our wedding dinner and a constant in my younger life.
She earned our utmost respect, however, by teaching Craig to read; by setting aside “Whole Language Concept’ and using ‘Phonics’. Neurologists said that he would never read, post ABI/TBI. He did.
I later told Mrs. Baker that Craig sat around the conference room table, at the Hill Brain Injury Program Office each month for 2 years, ‘pie chart’ in hand, reading his goals and achievements, never hesitating at any ‘big medical’ word. She inspired that confidence and knowledge… and he was only one student. It is mind-boggling to think of the all of the differences Marg Baker made…in her school and community and home. “Well done , good and faithful servant” comes to mind. Big hugs to Tammy, Rob, Terry and families. Wishing you Peace.

Please accept my deepest condolences in your loss of beautiful Marg. She was always kind, compassionate and an outstanding teacher. In my first year of teaching in 1972, I worked with Marg at Huron Centennial PS in Brucefield two days a week where she had 72 Kindergarten students in two classes. Each class had 36 students who came to school for the full day, every other day and I learned more from Marg about teaching, pedagogy and classroom management than I had from anyone else. She had a wonderful sense of humor and we had so much fun every day.
May the wonderful memories you have of Marg comfort you and rest in peace dear Marg.

    To the entire Baker family,

I extend my most sincere condolences to each of you as you mourn the passing of your mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. The beautiful tribute is testament to the love and caring of Marg and the role she played in shaping not only your lives, but also those of the many students whose lives she touched. May happy memories replace the sadness in your hearts and may she rest in eternal peace.
