At London Health Sciences Centre, University Hospital on Tuesday, March 28, 2006 after a courageous battle with ALS, James “Jim” Irwin Parker of Grand Bend passed away peacefully in his 55th year with his beloved wife at his side.  Deeply loved by his devoted wife and faithful companion Linda (Hartwick).  Beloved father of Jenny of Strathroy, Laura of Grand Bend, David and Rosie of Texas and Andrew and Sheryl of Mississauga.  Beloved papa of Owen, Morgan, Mason, David, Korina and Adam.  Youngest son of Eileen Parker of Exeter and the late William Parker.  Son-in-law of Pat Hartwick of London.  Survived by brothers Doug (Henny) of Exeter, David (Lois) and John (Eleanor) all of London, sisters Betty (Larry) Johnson of Manitoba, Barbara (Geoff) Graham of Burlington and Beverley (Garry) Kline of Exeter.  Special uncle to several nieces and nephews.  Best friend of Terry Harris of Grand Bend.  Friends and relatives are welcome to share memories of Jim with family at the Hopper Hockey Funeral Home, 370 William Street, 1 west of Main, Exeter on Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 PM where the funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 1st at 11 AM with Mrs. Margaret Vanderheyden officiating. Violet Marina (Reid) Knee of Exeter Villa, formerly of Centralia peacefully passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2006 in her 67th year.  Loving wife of Percy Knee for almost 50 years.  Dear mother and mother-in-law of Sharon and Larry Gibson, Perry and Nina Knee and Darlene and Bill Van Bergen all of Centralia and Wallace Knee of St. Marys.  Loving grandmother of Peter Gibson, Tina and Christian PrÚmont, Crystal Knee and friend Ian Gawel, Ryan and Justin Knee, Jeremy and Jeffery Van Bergen and Jessica and Jacklyn Knee.  Great-grandmother of Merrick PrÚmont.  Dear sister and sister-in-law of Harold and Laura Reid, Doug and Eileen Reid, Wallace and Linda Reid, Sam and Jackie Reid, Mundon and Glennis Reid and Audrey and Peter Stoyles of Newfoundland.   Predeceased by her parents Samuel and Lilly Reid, infant brother Cyril and infant sister Evelyn, infant twin grandsons, brothers-in-law Harry Warren and Seymour Knee and sisters-in-law Norma Reid and Lillian Knee.  Many nieces and nephews will remember Violet.  At Violet’s request, cremation will take place and there will be no funeral home visitation or service.   The family would appreciate expressions of sympathy to the Alzheimer Society.  The family would also like to thank the staff of the Exeter Villa for the special care given to mom while she was there.  Hopper Hockey Funeral Home, Exeter (235-1220) entrusted with arrangements.  

John Charles Brintnell

John Charles “Jack” Brintnell passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Wednesday, March 22, 2006.  Born in Biddulph Township December 4, 1919, John lived his 86 years to the fullest.  He was a proud veteran and was always very active in the community.  Deeply loved by his family, John will be greatly missed by his wife Edith, children Rodger, Jane Ann and Kathryn, brother Har, sisters Almira and Anita and many nieces and nephews.  John was adored “Papa” to Amy, Jeff, Stephanie, Wes, David and Valentino.  Predeceased by loving wife Marie (Ford) Brintnell, daughter Faye Forrester, parents Alvin and Irene, brothers Jim, Doug, Frank, sisters Madeline and Etta Mae, he will be missed by the Ford, Craig and Bowen families.  Friends and relatives are welcome to share memories of John with the family on Friday 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Hopper Hockey Funeral Home, 370 William Street, 1 west of Main, Exeter where the funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 AM.  Interment Exeter Cemetery.  Those wishing to make memorial donations are asked to consider the South Huron Hospital-Diagnostic Imaging PACS Project for equipment upgrade or the Exeter Legion.  There will be a Legion service in the funeral home on Friday at 6:30 PM under the auspices of  the R. Marvin Stanley Smout MD FRCP(C)

MARVIN STANLEY SMOUT, MD FRCP(C). March 11, 2006 at London Health Sciences Centre University Campus, London, Ontario in his 77th year.  Dear husband of Anne Doreen (Atkinson) and father of Ellen, Jennifer (Gregg Barrett) and Laura Gedies (Paul). Dr. Smout was born in St. Thomas, Ontario and attended the University of Western Ontario where he received his M.D. Degree. He continued with post graduate medical education at UWO and later at the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) where he commenced his academic career as an instructor in pathology. In 1959, Dr. Smout began his 31year career at Victoria Hospital, 25 years as Chief of Anatomic Pathology. An active faculty member at UWO, he taught pathology to over 2,400 students in 30 consecutive medical school classes. He was selected as Honorary Class President several times and in 1973 was the recipient of the “Class of ’62 Award” as the teacher who has contributed in an outstanding manner to the graduating class. Dr. Smout was a role model for many residents and a generation of practicing pathologists. He was an examiner in Surgery for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and an enthusiastic researcher and author and contributed to numerous professional organizations including the Ontario Association of Pathologists, and as an Ontario Delegate to the College of American Pathologists. Upon his retirement in 1991, Dr. Smout was awarded the designation of Professor Emeritus by UWO and received a life membership in the Ontario Medical Association. Dr. Smout’s interest in natural history began in 1942 when he joined the St. Thomas-Elgin Field Naturalists’ Club. This led him to appointments to the Point Pelee National Park Rare Bird Records Committee, the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority and the Fanshawe Pioneer Village. His love and enthusiasm for bird watching inspired contributions to “Birders’ Journal” and “American Birds” and photographs published in the “Globe and Mail”. Dr. Smout’s interest in history led to his role as Chair of the Archives Committee of Victoria Hospital from 1973-1990. He coordinated the publication of “Growing to Serve, the History of the First One Hundred Years of Victoria Hospital”. In his retirement, Dr. Smout served on the Boards of the London Community Foundation and the London Health Sciences Foundation. His demonstrated standard of professionalism and his dedication to family, career and community will be remembered.  The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00pm Thursday, March 16, 2006, at Museum London, 421 Ridout Street North, London.
