Charles Laughton

At Parkwood Hospital, London on Monday, August 30, 2004 Charles “Van” Laughton LLB, QC formerly of Grand Bend and Exeter in his 85th year. Beloved husband of the late Maureen (Kennedy) Laughton (1998). Father and Father-in-law of Terri and John Kennedy of London, Geordie and Earl Farrell of Port Elgin and Richard and Olga Laughton of Milton. Gummie to Melissa, Robyn, Raegan, Lindsay, Jennifer, Tess, Edwyna, Sarah, Tara and Josh. Brother  and brother-in-law of Paul and Eleanor Laughton of Ottawa. Van was born on November 27, 1919 at the Womens College Hospital in Toronto. He grew up in North Toronto and later graduated from Pickering College in Newmarket. With the start of World War 2 Van joined the Navy, attended COTC (Canadian Officer Training Course), and graduated as a Lieutenant. During the war, he sailed the North Atlantic on the HMCS Arnprior, the Aasiz and the Cobalt 1. After the war Van married Maureen Kennedy then settled in Halifax, while he attended Dalhousie Law School. He helped raise his family in Exeter and later in Grand Bend. Van practised law for many years in both those communities. He was also an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion and the Royal Canadian Navy Association. Passionate sailors, Van and Maureen spent many summers on their sailboat in the North Channel. A Memorial Service will be held at Parkwood Hospital, Chapel of the Good Shepherd, 801 Commissioners Rd. E. London (please use parking lot #3) on Saturday, September 4th at 3:30 p.m. with Rev. Darrell Shaule officiating. Cremation with interment Exeter Cemetery. Germaine (Gerry) Zinn

At South Huron Hospital, Exeter on Sunday, August 29, 2004 Germaine (Gerry) Zinn of Lucan in her 82nd year. Beloved wife of Roy Zinn. Dear mother of Carol and John Stiles of Victoria, B.C., Fern and Gord Wilson of Lucan and Roy and Carol Zinn of London. Also survived by 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Henry J. (Harry) Frayne

At Queensway Nursing Home, Hensall on Sunday, August 29, 2004 Henry J. (Harry) Frayne formerly of Usborne Township,in his 89th year. Survived by several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents William and Alma (Kerslake) Frayne, brothers George and Lloyd and a sister Violet Bender. At Harry’s request there will be no funeral home visitation or service. A Graveside Service and Legion Service will be held at the Exeter Cemetery on Thursday, September 2nd at 11 Am with Nancy Corrigan officiating. Cremation with Interment Exeter Cemetery. At London Health Sciences Centre, Westminster Campus on Friday, August 20, 2004 Cornelia (Connie) (Heemskerk) Van Duyn formerly of Exeter in her 79th year, surrounded by her loving famiy, peacefully went to be with the Lord. Beloved wife of the late Nicholas C. (Nick) Van Duyn (2001). Dear mother of Ann and Bob Oke of Kirkton, Nelly and Ralph Roadhouse of London, Connie and Hans De Jong of Grand Bend, Joan and Ron Andersen of London and Marjorie and Wayne Khan of Oshawa. Dear grandmother of Sheila and Carrie; Jason and Jeremy; Matthew and Jonathan; Aliesha, Nick, Aaron and Katelyn; and Brandon and Samantha. Special great-grandmother to Emily, Erin and Ethan. Alma Matilda Etherington

Alma Matilda Etherington, at the Exeter Villa, Exeter, on Sunday, August 15, 2004 in her 91st year. Predeceased in 2000 by Archie, her husband of 65 years. Survived by her three sons, Jim and his wife Liz of London, Bill and his wife Barbara of Toronto and John and his wife Sylvia of Calgary.  Predeceased by her daughter Bernice in 1941. Also survived by six grandchildren David (Sue) of St. Catharines, Timothy (An) of Peterborough, Jill (Matt) Tennant of Edmonton, Michael of Toronto, Samantha (Dave) and Joshua (Audrey) both of Calgary, and one great-grand daughter Lydia Jane Etherington. Alma was born in Belmore, Huron County, daughter of the late William and Jemima Abram. One of 13 children she is survived by her brothers Robert, of Phoenix, Arizona, William, of London and Stephen of Victoria, and one sister, Mary Abram, of London. Alma and Archie farmed side by side in Usborne Township for 45 years, eventually retiring to Exeter in 1990. She was a faithful member for many years of the United Church Women at Thames Road/Elimville United Church, the Hurondale Women’s Institute and the Order of the Eastern Star, Exeter Chapter. Suddenly as the result of an automobile accident on Wednesday, August 4, 2004 Tyler David Cosens of RR 3 Lucan in his 22nd year.  Beloved son of Jeff and Sally Cosens of RR 3 Lucan. Dear brother of Lee of Lucan.  Dear grandson of Murray and Barbara Cosens and Mien Hendrix all of London.  Dear nephew of Tim, John and Kim, Todd and Marisa and Bob and Alecia Cosens all of London.  Also survived by several cousins and friends and special friend Samantha Dufton.  Tyler was a chef and enjoyed working at the Stone Willow Inn in St. Marys.  Friends may call at the C.
