LAPORTE: Jean-Pierre “JP” of RR 2 Lucan

February 6, 2026 By Haskett Funeral Homes 146 Condolences

LAPORTE: Jean-Pierre “JP” of RR 2 Lucan

JP passed away suddenly at South Huron Hospital on Wednesday, February 4, 2026 at the age of 64. Loving husband of Kathy (Talbot) Laporte for 45 years. Proud dad of Ardona and Andy Moulton, Carin Laporte, Meagan Laporte (Hamish McCall), and Taylor Laporte (Conor MacKeigan). Honourary grandpa of Beckett, and Oliver. Beloved son of Lilliane (Dupon) and the late John Laporte and son-in-law of Fran  and the late Bill Talbot. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Shelley and Steve Bedard, and Karen and Ed Young. Cherished uncle JP of Aaron (Rae), Dylan (Justine); Mathew (Jenn), Daren (Tera), Cara, and Lindsey (Richard). Fondly remembered by his 4 legged companion Harper and many great-nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his brother Marcel Laporte.

JP treasured time on the water fishing, travelling on cruises, and visiting Mexico to see Kathy’s parents, but nothing mattered more to him than his family — his devoted wife and their four girls.

He worked for 21 years as a plumber at the University of Western Ontario, where he formed many lasting friendships and became known for the sound of his voice singing Christmas songs through the halls each month of the year except December. JP later taught plumbing at Fanshawe College, proudly passing his knowledge of the trade on to future generations.

Whether playing board games, cards, or yard games instead of watching television, JP found joy in togetherness, laughter, and the simple moments that make life meaningful.

Visitation will be held at Haskett Funeral Home, 456 Main Street South, EXETER on Tuesday, February 10th from 5 – 8 PM, where JP’s memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 11th at 11 AM. Cremation has taken place.

Stream the service online or at your convenience by visiting www.facebook.com/haskettfh.

Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.

    Kathy and family

I heard this regretful news about JP the other day when I was on campus. I don’t know if it was the shock or the sadness that most overwhelmed me.

It was my pleasure to have worked with JP until my retirement and enjoyed running into him whenever I stopped back into the shops. If you were ever feeling down or a little fed up, JP could lift your mood, without ever intending to do so. He was that sort of person.

    My sincerest condolences. Mitch

Kathy, Ardona, Carin, Meagan, Taylor and the rest of JP’s family,
Our deepest condolences to you all.
Complete shock and sadness at the news of JP’s passing. JP was always kind, always smiling and always laughing. Shawn has many great memories working with JP and riding back and forth to work together in Shawn’s early career. Many laughs and beers shared together over the years with you both. I too, had the privilege of working with JP before he retired from Western within the residences I was working in. He always asked about Timmy-his nickname for Shawn and the girls and in turn when asked how Kathy and the girls were he was always happy to share how his family was. He was very proud of you all and spoke of you often when he would stop to chat. JP always made time to stop and chat-such an amazing human!
I have many memories of the laughs we shared over some of the years and have missed seeing him on campus.
I remember coming home one day in the summer when we worked together at Delaware Hall telling Shawn I saw JP and he was singing Christmas carols and Shawn laughed and said he used to do that when they worked together at Cullitons.
A great guy, wonderful friend and a loving husband and father gone far too soon.
May you find peace and comfort in the online condolences and know he adored you all and touched the lives of so many people. He will be missed by many.
    Thinking of you all,
Shawn and Bev Dayman and family

Dear Kathy, Ardona, Carin, Meagan and Taylor

Lovable goofball is a great description of JP. I’d add amazing dad, devoted husband, and fun coworker. Growing up, he was the goofy older cousin that always seemed so happy and content. Ardona, Meagan, Carin and Taylor have grown up to be strong and independent women and I’m sure that had a lot to do with the loving home Kathy and JP provided.

I like to think that Heaven gained another player at the pepper table and another fisherman for the boat.

We are thinking of you all

Our prayers and deepest sympathies on the passing of JP. Knew JP for years, first as a neighbor when he was growing up around Drysdale. He worked quite a bit at my place when he worked for Richard Bedard Construction. Last 10 years got to go fishing with him. He was so proud of his family and talked about them steady. Great honest, hardworking and talented man who will be missed.
