With love and appreciation for a life well lived, we share the peaceful passing of John Britan on July 18, 2026, 2026. John was born to Frank and Doris Britan in Bournemouth, England and immigrated to Canada in 1967 where he worked for the federal government. He loved his family and used his time and energy to better the lives of the communities and people he surrounded himself with. He never shied away from a project that needed his help, always stood up for his beliefs and was always ready to make you smile.
The Salvation Army was an integral part of his life, John played-in, taught and lead dozens of bands.
The church was a foundational pillar of his life and something that created an instant and ever-lasting connection between him and the love of his life, Wendy. Together, John and Wendy created a life filled with cherished memories, laughter, and an astonishing love that was persistent and joyous.
John will be remembered by his wife Wendy – his children Carl (Tracy) and Jocelyn (Joe) – his grandchildren Jeff (Saskia), Nicole (Dave), Bradley (Monica), and Rebecca – his great-grandchildren Max, Jack, Hudson, Martin, Wesley, and Caden – and the countless people who he befriended and mentored throughout his life.
We would like to thank the incredible nurses and doctors of the South Huron Hospital, who worked diligently to ensure John was comfortable and cared for.
Please join us at Suncoast Citadel, 303 Suncoast Drive East, GODERICH on Friday, August 14th at 12 PM, for a celebration of life, where he will be promoted to glory.
Donations to Parkinson Canada or the Alzheimer Society Huron Perth would be appreciated by the family.

So sorry to hear of John’s passing. He was truly a mentor to many and he had a particular place in his heart for the young ones. I’ve always said that John was one of the greatest influences on my music life. My dad taught me to play but John made me play and challenged me to improve. I’ll never forget that.
