GARDINER: Peacefully into his Saviour’s presence, at Exeter Villa Nursing Home, Exeter, on Saturday, February 24, 2024, Charles “Charlie” James Gardiner, formerly of Dashwood, age 77. Beloved husband of Miriam Sarah Lamb (Rankin) Gardiner. Loved father of Sarah Gardiner of Dashwood and Judith Gardiner of Glencraig Scotland. Dear brother and brother-in-law of David and Mary Gardiner, Ben and Janice Gardiner all of Kirkton, Ann Rankin of Scotland, John Rankin of Ireland, Tom and Janetta Rankin of England. Remembered by his nieces, nephews and their families. Predeceased by his parents James Wilmer and Velma Gladys (Gratton) Gardiner. Resting at the T. Harry Hoffman & Sons Funeral Home, Dashwood, with Visitation on Thursday, February 29, 2024 from 6 to 9 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held at the Gospel Hall, Grand Bend on Friday, March 1, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. with additional visitation 1 hour prior. Interment Roy’s United Church Cemetery, Fullarton, at a later date.

Charles trusted Christ as his personal Saviour at the age of 19, when he realized as a sinner he could be reconciled to God by the death of His Son (Romans 5:10).
Charles loved God first, which was manifested in his love for his family. And he loved souls of all languages and peoples. He was in fellowship with the Christians meeting at the Grand Bend Gospel Hall.
With patient endurance, Charles battled Parkinson’s disease for 30 years. The family would like to thank all who contributed to his care including: Dr Mandar Jog, Dr Andrew Parrent, St Elizabeth Care Givers, local Seniors programs, Vanessa S., Dr. Jadd and the staff at Exeter Villa.

We send our sincere sympathy and trust that the Lord will sustain you in your loss. We always enjoyed meeting Charles and were impressed with his love for the Gospel of the Grace of God. Despite his affliction he had a cheery disposition and a vital interest in the welfare of others. I recall visiting him in his home when parkinson’s was an obvious handicap, yet while there, Charles remembered that he wanted to call someone that he wished to attend the Gospel meeting in Grand Bend Gospel Hall. He struggled to his feet and amazingly persevered to dial the persons phone number, despite the shaking in his hand. His love for those who need God’s salvation was so obvious in his whole outlook on life.

The first time I met Charlie (in 1979) he had learned French and was walking in the gospel in the province of Quebec.
The following time I met Charlie – some 30 years later – he had learned Spanish, and was wheeling in the gospel among seasonal, Latin American, farm workers in Southern Ontario.
The next time I will meet Charlie, every hindrance will be removed and he will be worshiping his Saviour for the gospel of the grace of God.
