I was so sad to just get the obit from my sister, that Pete has passed away. I would have liked to’ve been able to be at his wake. Pete and I weren’t really close friends, we didn’t go to each other’s homes for suppers or such, but he lived just up Warwick from our cottage and we’d see each other a few times a year. I first met Pete in the 70’s and he was one of the perennial Grand Benders with whom I shared a nodding, yet comfortable acquaintance.
I last saw Pete last summer when we met at the Big Kahuna and I bought him a beer and we chatted about how the Bend wasn’t what it used to be. We’d also talked about his boat and I’m glad I was able to express my admiration for his workmanship in the building of it, truly first class.
As we closed the cottage this fall, I walked past his place keeping an eye out, but wasn’t able to see him nor talk to him and now I never will, and that saddens me. We shared a love for Dodge Challengers and after 33 years, I finally got the opportunity to show him mine completed.
There’ll be a quiet moment next year when I walk (God willing) past Pete’s house and realize that my old friend won’t be there. You’re never truly dead until you’re forgotten and Pete will live on in our minds forever. Rock on Pete.
    Ian Scott
