Ellis passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Blue Water Rest Home on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at the age of 84. Beloved husband of Erlene (Gingerich) Stewart for over 64 years. Cherished father of Kim (Mike), Brad (Linda) and Brian. Proud grandpa of Melissa (Greg), Jennifer, Brandon (Madison), Jessica (Mark), Connor (An), Nick, Zack and great-grandpa of Jaden (Kyle), Avery, Claire, Grayson, Sophie, Mia and Greyson and great-great-grandpa of Paisley and Emersyn. Dear brother of Judy Johnson (Barry), and Rodger Finkbeiner (Charlene), dear brother-in-law of Darlene Finkbeiner and Theresa Finkbeiner. Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his father Elmer Stewart, his mother Irene (Stewart) Finkbeiner, step-father Allan Finkbeiner and brothers Doug Finkbeiner and Steve Finkbeiner.
Born on August 10, 1941 in Manitoba, Ellis and his mother Irene moved to Ontario in 1944 after his father was killed in the war. Ellis gained a second father, Allan Finkbeiner, and four siblings. A hardworking man, Ellis spent over 20 years at Cooks in Hensall (now Hensall Co-op) followed by another 20 years at the Dublin Feed Mill. Ellis was well known and well respected in the farming community! After retirement, he and his beloved wife Erlene enjoyed many winters together in Florida. Ellis loved a good game of euchre, a round of golf, cheering on the Blue Jays and Maple Leafs, and above all, time spent with his grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Haskett Funeral Home, 456 Main Street South, EXETER on Saturday, October 18th from 1 โ 2 PM, where Ellisโ funeral service will be held at 2:30 PM.

Condolance from Dr. Ross Wein, Professor Emeritus, University of Alberta, Edmonton.
I have just been alerted by my sister (Eleanor Wein Rader of Dashwood that my boyhood friend has passed away. Memories of Sharon School and South Huron District High School flooded back. We biked to Sharon and took the yellow bus to Exeter. We were known as the Grade Eleven twins since we hung out together. In Stephen Township were were farm boys who spent much time as fox hunters and fishers. We cycled everywhere before achieving our driver license. I think I still have gravel in my knees from skids on the rural gravel roads. To Erlene and families, thanks for a trip down memory lane!

Our prayers are with you Erleen & family on the passing of Ellis, a sweet, gentle giant in his faith. We often speak of our special years down in Sunnybreeze Christian Fellowship, & especially back when you two were there in the park. We remember interviewing you for one of the beautiful Anniversary Banquets that were held … & you two were such good sports. We have wonderful memories of those days don’t we? Ellis will be remembered in many minds & hearts. May the Lord continue to bless you & give you added strength for the coming days. You can trust Him for His peace & comfort.
