My sister Eleanor Wein Rader of Dashwood informed me that Doris passed away recently. Doris grew up on a farm on the Finkbeiner Line that was close to our farm so I knew her parents and siblings. All of our ancestors originated in the Black Forest (Schwartswald) of Germany. But I knew her as a member of our Zion United Church in Crediton and then of course as a long-serving secretary at our South Huron District High School. I moved away from the region – and surprising to most teachers, I had a Canadian university career of 40 years. Reading the obituary and seeing the images brought back many memories. Thank you.

With sympathy to Kevin, Karen and families.
I was blessed to know Doris since childhood. Such a caring and kind lady who was very talented.
As you know, Doris grew up on the farm next to our family farm on what was then called the Finkbeiner Line.
She was very active at Zion EUB Church in Crediton (later Zion United). Doris had a wonderful soprano voice and as well as singing in the choir, often was called upon for solos.
I often accompanied her on the piano or pipe organ. How her voice could soar in that sanctuary where all the wood created great acoustics! I have fond memories of her rendition of The Holy City, a very difficult song.
Love the photos here, showing a life well- lived!

I had the great privilege of working with Doris when I started at SHDHS, and she was the head secretary. She was a wonderful lady, well liked by the students and staff. Doris ran a tight ship with supplies, and I remember going to ask her for more chalk for my classroom, and her giving me five pieces to last me a week! She met both of my children when I brought them in to the office as newborns, and later Doris and Karl welcomed them into their house at Halloween for special treats. To her family, my sincere condolences; Doris made a positive impact on the lives of so many people and will be missed
