Peacefully at Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital on Sunday, September 8, 2019 of Ilderton, at the age of 81. Cherished and best friend of Myrtle (Smith) Hastings for 62 years. Loving father of Heather and Scott Furtney of Port Dover, Rick Hastings of Ilderton, and Becky Hastings and Bruce McCutcheon of Owen Sound. Adored grandpa of Lauren and Corey, Joel and Melissa, Matthew and Donna, Leah and Dan, Josh and Theresa, Barrett, and Brodie and Brittany. Loved great-grandpa of 13. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Robert and Bonnie Hastings, Betty Churchill, John and Sandy Hastings, Bonnie and Verne Westover, Honey Hastings, Margaret and Bill Henderson, Bruce and Janet Smith, Carol and Tony Sammut, Eileen and Bob McCoy, Ralph and Marilyn Smith, and Greg Smith. Jim will be missed by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Cy and Isabel (Davidson) Hastings, brother Gordon Hastings, and mother and father-in-law Marion and James Smith.
A celebration of life will be held at the Ilderton Community Centre, 13168 Ilderton Road, Ilderton on Sunday, September 15th from 2 – 5 PM. Cremation has taken place.
Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Diabetes Canada or the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
We are always willing to go where called upon but this image shows a visual of the communities that our included in our initial transportation fee. We offer a 40km radius from any of our 5 locations (Arva (London), Exeter, Lucan, Seaforth, and Zurich). Any mileage beyond the included 40km will be charged a rate of $2.50/km (one way travel only).

Frequently people do not say what they really think. As I sit here reminiscing with tears in my eyes, I felt it an appropriate time to express myself. The great memories, I have of you and Jim will never be forgotten. The camping weekends at Happy Hills, the many Saturday nights we danced the night and early morning away at Thorndale and Sheddon, the many nights we spent together watching go karts, TQ midgets and supers racing and above all the many Christmas Eves and early Christmas mornings you opened your home to family and friends.
Your caring attitude to us, even looking after Melanie when she was only a couple of months old so we could make a trip to Connecticut are included in the many memories you and Jim have given to us and we are indebted to you. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this time.
