WHALEN: Ruth (Whalen) of RR 1 Thorndale
Posted By Haskett Funeral Homes On July 22, 2025 @ 1:58 PM In Lucan,Obituary | 10 Comments

Ruth passed away peacefully at St. Marys Hospital on Monday, July 21, 2025 at the age of 92. Beloved wife of the late Charles Whalen (2003). Cherished mom of Valerie Whalen, John Whalen, and Margaret and Ken O’Quinn. Proud grandma of Jessica, Jenna (Jared), Waylen (Taelar), Stephen (Jennifer) and great-grandma “GG” of Isabella, and Ben. Fondly remembered by her family.
Ruth’s life revolved around the farm, her gardens, and above all, her family. She found joy in the simple things—crossword puzzles, jigsaw challenges, and the occasional scratch ticket. Ever generous and a little mischievous, she was known to quietly slip a bit of her winnings to her grandchildren with a wink and a smile.
Visitation will be held at Haskett Funeral Home, 223 Main Street, LUCAN on Wednesday, July 23rd from 4 – 7 PM.
Ruth’s Funeral Mass will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 32922 Richmond Street, LUCAN on Thursday, July 24th at 11 AM. Interment St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery, Lucan.
Donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
Ruth was always a lovely lady when she came to visit me in my salon. Knowing she is with Charlie now makes the pain a little easier. May she rest in peace

I’m so very saddened by the loss of your beautiful mom, I will always see her smile and hear her laugh when I think of her. She always made me feel welcomed and a part of the family on my visits to the farm. So many memories of shared time together that I will never forget, including the infamous pickle incident. Her strength, humour, curiosity, passion for the farm and love of her family will always be in my heart. Sending all of you my love and deeply sympathies.
