WAY: Eilleen Mary (Jamieson) of Grand Bend

Born June 8, 1930, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 just shy of her 89th birthday.  Beloved wife of the late Leo Way.  Loving mother of Richard (Maggie), Gloria Day (Simon), and Leisa Way (David Nairn), and grandmother of Rebecca Cherwonak (Jody), Barbara Anselmo (Nelson), Jake Day (Chantel), John Way (Catherine Hilliard), Eric Way, and Scott Way, and great-grandmother of five.  Sister to Gloria Rowlandson, and predeceased by sisters Lavina Perrin, Jean Hamilton, Eveline Duffy, brothers Gordon, Lawrence, Wilmer & Jim Jamieson, and parents William Jamieson and Mary MacDonald. Eilleen was born in Callander, Ontario, into a large family of nine.  Her Dad played the fiddle and his love of music was instilled in his children, who all played instruments. Eilleen in particular loved to step dance.  She met the love of her life, Leo, at a square dance. He was the caller and always joked that he ‘called to her heart’.  They married in 1948 and their children were born in Kitchener, where Eilleen worked for almost 20 years at the Hi-Way Market.  They moved to Sault Ste. Marie briefly before settling in Copper Cliff (near Sudbury). Eilleen worked at the Pinto Store, where everyone in town knew and loved her for her bright smile and sunny personality. Over the years, Leo and Eilleen were valued Foster Parents, welcoming many children into their home, and changing so many lives with their unconditional love.  When Leo passed, Eilleen moved to Grand Bend to be closer to her family, her greatest love.  She showed that love by feeding everyone. Her famous cinnamon buns will be missed, along with Grandpa’s favourite ‘appropriate’ date-filled cookies.  Heartfelt thanks to the medical team at South Huron Hospital in Exeter, Ontario for their incredible care and kindness.

Donations can be made to: South Huron Hospital Foundation (attn: Kimberley 519-235-2700) to purchase needed equipment in Eilleen’s memory.

A celebration of her beautiful life will be held at a later date.

Arrangements entrusted to Haskett Funeral Home, Zurich.

My sincere condolences on the passing of Eilleen. I never met her, but my mother Beverly Skuce , would have been a childhood friend. The Jamieson family was well known in rural Callander. If you close your eyes you can hear the fiddles and the laughter . All the best to her family at this sad time.

My deepest condolences to Richard, Dodie and Leisa. My fondest memories are when she baked the miniature apple pie and always let me get into her closet and pull out all her high heel shoes. She was a beautiful, sweet person and will be greatly missed by many.

Condolence from Ron and Pat Wagner on May 6th, 2019 4:53 PM

Dear Leisa, Richard and Gloria…. Ron and I wish to extend our deepest sympathy for the loss of your mom. We are going to miss her smiling face at the Way Reunion. She had such a kind and welcoming presence about her, that you just had to give her a big hug when you saw her. Take heart, in that you had her for so long, some aren’t as fortunate. She will forever be in your hearts and knowing that, is what will get the family through this sad time.

Time will dull the sadness but thank goodness for the memories.

Ron and Pat

Our deepest sympathy to all the family . We are so saddened to have heard the news of Gran’s passing. This little lady won our hearts over the first time we met her. She was fortunate to be part of a family who appreciated just how special she was. She was an active participant on my facebook and loved a good joke. She will be so missed. How wonderful to have lived such a full long life.. Mozart , Julie and family.
