VAN TOL: Simon of Egmondville, formerly of Stoney Creek

Passed away peacefully at Seaforth Long Term Care on Monday, January 29, 2024, in his 95th year. Loving husband of Elisabeth (vander Kraats) Van Tol for over 71 years. Cherished dad of Joanne and Paul Green of England, Simon and Helen Van Tol of Petawawa, Elma and Mike Kellough of Seaforth, Marilyn and Harry Den Haan of Seaforth, and Julie and Tom Watts of Beamsville. Proud Opa of 16 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren. Dear brother-in-law of Corrie Van Tol. Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Nicholaas and Gerritje Van Tol, and his 4 brothers and 6 sisters.

Simon was an avid fisherman and hunter and enjoyed a meal of his daily catch. He loved to spend time tending to his gardens and other gardens around town – no weeds survived!. Simon managed a 145 acre fruit farm and took great pride in the trees, the buildings and the entire property. He was always up for a camping adventure, a canoe trip or could be found playing the mouth organ. For many years, Simon was a hockey coach and took part in the ice time with the team. Above all, he enjoyed time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at the Clinton Christian Reformed Church, 243 Princess Street East, CLINTON on Saturday, February 3rd from 1 – 3 PM, where Simon’s funeral service will be held at 3 PM. Spring interment Egmondville Cemetery.

My condolences with your loss. I have fond memories of your family on the fruit farm. I really appreciate the times I was invited to join your family on camping trips. How was it possible to squeeze in another person in a car with your entire family. I can still picture the canoe on the roof of the car when being picked up. Good times!

Such fond memories of spending time fishing, camping and skating on the ponds on the fruit farm. Oom Siem and Tante Bep and their kids (along with the Deans) became our chosen family, as none of our relatives remained in Canada. My siblings all have fond memories of spending time playing and doing chores (picking berries, weeding the vegetable garden etc.) with the Van Tols.
