Passed away peacefully at home after a short illness, with her family by her side on Sunday, December 21, 2025 at the age of 81. Beloved wife of the late Chris Van Bussel since 1963. Cherished mother of Ann Straatman, Mary Van Bussel and Michael Feeney, Brian VanBussel and Lisa Adams, and Karen Favacho and Jon Binks. Adored granny of Matthew and Kelsey, Joel and Madison; Justine, Caroline, Noah, Timothy; Leah; Camille, and Samuel and great-grandma of Scottie, Bill and soon to come Baby Straatman. Dear sister and sister-in-law of Frank and Bridgette Van Geel, Andy Van Geel and Gloria Hodgins, Walda and Gary Barker, John Van Geel and Joe Eagleson, Nancy and Bob Flanagan, Mary and Harold McAdam, Jack Van Geel, Keith Van Geel, Lois Van Geel, and Mary Van Geel. Cathy will be fondly remembered by the extended Van Bussel families as well as many nieces, nephews and staff at Seelster Farms. Predeceased by her parents Jac and Catherina (Van Delaar) Van Geel, step-mother Quirina (De Koning) Van Geel, parents-in-law Frank and Gerarda Van Bussel and siblings and in-laws, Adrian (George) Van Geel, Carl Van Geel, and Pete and Joyce Van Geel.
Cathy’s life was defined by her unwavering love for her family, her strong faith, and the treasured friendships she held close.
The family would like to extend sincere gratitude to Dr. Dan Leger for the wonderful care provided to Cathy over the years and his incredible support in her final days
Visitation will be held at Haskett Funeral Home, 223 Main Street Lucan on Sunday, December 28th from 3 – 5 PM.
Cathy’s Funeral Mass will be held the following day on Monday, December 29th at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 32922 Richmond Street, Lucan at 11AM. Interment St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
Donations to a charity of your choice in Cathy’s memory would be appreciated by the family.

Condolences to all Cathy,s close family and relatives. I have known Cathy since we were in our teens and she worked at the grocery store in Lucan. She was always so gracious. Then when we were older we would see each other at the North Star. A special meeting place for us both. We will have wonderful memories of Cathy.

I worked for the Van Bussel’s for three years at Seelster farms in the early 90’s as their farm veterinarian. I remember all of the tremendous support that Cathy gave me as I was going through some personal challenges at that time. A very special woman who will be missed by all of her friends & family.

I am so sorry to hear of the death of Cathy. She was a faith-filled and loving woman. I have fond memories of her and Chris when I was pastor at St. Pat’s way back in 1996. They were part of the backbone of the parish, with all they said and did! More recently, I enjoyed hugs and quick chats with Cathy when celebrating mass at St. Patrick’s. I’ll never forget her.
