UPSHALL: Margaret Catherine (Hayter) of Ailsa Craig, formerly of Hensall

Passed away peacefully at Craigwiel Gardens, Ailsa Craig on Monday, January 15, 2024 at the age of 86. Beloved wife of the late John “Jack” Upshall (1995). Cherished mother of Floyd and Crystal Upshall, Betty and Stewart Sr. Irvine, Doug and Gail Upshall, and Carolyn and Blair Shrubsall. Adored grandmother of Julie and Dave, David and Lesley, Lisa and Mark; Heather and Jesse, Sarah and Michael, Stewart Jr. and Sarah; Miranda and Josiah, Johnathan and Kassy; and her furry grand-puppy Cooper; and great-grandmother of 14. Dear sister and sister-in-law of Stewart and Sharyn Hayter, Faye Upshall, Betty and Don Upshall, and Bob Upshall. Fondly remembered by her many nieces, nephews and her lifelong friend Dianne. Predeceased by her son Kenneth Upshall, infant daughter Catherine Upshall, her sister and in-law’s Barbara and Len Sutton, Grace and Wilmer Adkins, Elaine and Don Harburn, and her brother-in-law Doug Upshall.

Margaret volunteered much of her time to the community and the Hensall United Church. She was a member of the Hensall Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the Hensall Rebekah’s. Margaret loved golfing and spending time with family.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Whynot and the staff at the Craigwiel Gardens, Ailsa Craig for the exceptional care and compassion provided to Margaret over the years.

A celebration of Margaret’s life will be held at the Haskett Funeral Home, 456 Main Street South, EXETER on Friday, January 19, 2024 from 1-3 PM with words of remembrance at 2 PM. Donations to the Royal Canadian Legion – Branch 468 (Hensall Legion) in Margaret’s memory would be appreciated by the family.

Sorry to hear about Aunt Marg. Thinking of you all at this difficult time. It is hard to say goodbye to your mom.
Bruce and I stayed with your mom and dad for a little bit after mom’s car accident in 1959. I was seven and Bruce was 5. I remember having gingerale there. Funny how you remember little things.

Aunt Marg, From the weekends, summer vacations and holidays I spent with you on the farm and throughout my life you were there for all the milestones.
