THOONEN: Edmond “Ed” of Ilderton

It is with great sadness we announce Ed’s passing at his home on Friday, March 28, 2025 at the age of 62. Cherished and loving husband of Kathy (Allister) Thoonen for 34 years and doggy dad of his beagles Tilley and Bella. Loving son-in-law of Carol (Gill) Allister. Dear brother of Rosemary (Gene) Dubowchik, Fred (Lori) Thoonen, and brother-in-law of Janet (Hank) Arnold, Linda (Greg) Meadows. Fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews, Anna; Jessica and Lars, Hannah and Campbell; Melissa and Ryan, Allison and Carion, and Madison and grand-uncle to Henry, Elsie; and Lucy. Ed will be greatly missed by his aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. Predeceased by his parents Hank and Elsie (Grimminck) Thoonen, brother Henry Thoonen and his father-in-law Frank Allister.

Ed was a gifted and dedicated cabinetmaker, pouring his skill and craftsmanship into every piece he created throughout his career. His talent lives on in the cherished furniture he made for his family, each piece a lasting reminder of his artistry and love. A true craftsman, along with Kathy they designed and restored every part of their home, inside and out. Beyond his work, Ed found joy in the outdoors—whether hunting, fishing, canoeing, camping, hiking, or gardening he embraced nature wholeheartedly. As a proud member of the Satchels Lake Hunt Club, he shared his passion for the wilderness with others. He also took great pride in caring for his beagles and chickens, tending to them with the same patience and kindness he showed to those around him. Ed’s gentle nature, sharp wit, and dry sense of humor brought warmth and laughter to all who knew him. His kindness and presence will be deeply missed but forever remembered.

Visitation will be held at Haskett Funeral Home, 223 Main Street, Lucan on Tuesday, April 1st from 5 – 7 PM.

Ed’s funeral service will be held the following day on Wednesday, April 2nd at the Lucan Community Centre (Multi-Purpose Hall), 263 Main Street, Lucan at 11 AM. Cremation to follow.

Donations to Ducks Unlimited Canada, London Health Sciences Foundation – Cardiac Program, or a donation to your local food bank in Ed’s memory would be appreciated by the family.
