SULLIVAN: Patrick Alphonsus

SULLIVAN: Passed peacefully and surrounded by the love of his family on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, Patrick Alphonsus Sullivan, age 90, of Exeter, Ontario and formerly of Mount Carmel.

Predeceased in April by his beloved spouse of 65 years, Marion (Regier) Sullivan. Deeply loved and respected father and father-in-law of Jane Brooks (Doug), Jacqueline Sullivan (Byron DeClerck) and Susan Preszcator (Dennis). Very special grandpa to Patrick, Christopher, Alexandra, Meredith and Jordan, and five great-grandchildren. Much loved brother to Catherine Regier, and pre-deceased by his sisters Beatrice Casey, Theresa Pearson and Helen Loos. Pre-deceased by his parents Patrick J. and Catherine (Kairns) Sullivan.

Patrick had the true soul of a farm boy, born and raised on his family farm north of Mount Carmel. He and Marion managed the farm with their daughters for over 45 years and he loved nothing more than being “on the land” or in the bush. Patrick was a self-taught engineer, carpenter, mechanic and problem-solver – able to fix, build and manufacture just about anything he needed. Patrick also worked full-time from age 17 at the former Air Force base at Huron Park. He was curious, tenacious, charming, funny and modeled a strong work ethic and deep faith to his family. Patrick was a long-time Knights of Columbus member and served Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in many volunteer roles and activities. Patrick and Marion travelled and spent many warm winters in their home in Florida during their retirement years. He touched the lives of many friends and neighbours in Exeter and around Mount Carmel.

Patrick’s funeral mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Mount Carmel on Saturday, December 20, 2025 at 11 a.m., with Interment at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery. The Rev. Fr. Tony Laforet Celebrant.  If desired, memorial donations to South Huron Hospital Foundation or charity of choice are appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to the T. Harry Hoffman & Sons Funeral Home, Dashwood.

My sincere sympathy to the family. It is the loss of a fine gentleman. We had a good laugh when Pat shared photos of he and I as very young children playing in the O’Rourke farm lane which should be about 80 years ago. Also in later years we enjoyed time together when they lived a short distance from me in Florida. He will be missed.

So sad to hear of the losses of your mom & dad. I have fond memories of baby sitting their girls, when I was a teenager. Your mom had a well stocked treat cupboard. I remember seeing your dad’s tractor lights across the road, as he farmed deep into the night. I will forever remember the rotary dial wall telephone and the many stories from the ‘party-line.’ They were gracious neighbours + always there when our family needed them. My deepest sympathy.
