SHIPLEY: Marietta E. (Somerville) formerly of Lucan

It is with heavy hearts that we share the death of Marietta Elizabeth Shipley on Friday, November 14, 2025 with family by her side. Beloved mother of Lori Nickel (Craig) of Waterloo and Jeff Shipley (Nancy) of Ilderton. Cherished and proud grandmother of Steven (Nicole), Ryan (Pamela) and Katherine. Marietta will be missed by Jim Shipley. Predeceased by her parents Charlie and Nora Somerville.

Marietta grew up on a farm outside St. Marys where her love for pets (horses, cats and in particular dogs) began. After graduating as a RN, Marietta worked at St. Josephs Hospital and later at other medical facilities. Family was always Marietta’s priority – her love for her children and grandchildren knew no limits. In retirement, Marietta loved spending time with family, especially watching the grandchildren play hockey. She also enjoyed gardening, travelling and researching and writing family histories.

As per Marietta’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held at a later date.

In Marietta’s memory, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society Southwest Partners.
