SEARS: Donald Patrick of Denfield

It is with profound sadness that we announce that Don passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 17, 2025 at the age of 73, with his family by his side. He is survived by and will be forever missed by his wife Karen (Medd) and his children Laura (Mike) Proulx, Daniel Sears (Karen), stepson Scott Mountenay (Gaby), as well as his mother-in-law Margaret Medd. He was a loving and devoted grandpa to Jack, Maggie, Lucy, Alexis, Sofia, Devin, and Julia, who brought him so much joy and happiness. Don was raised in Montreal with his four siblings Kenneth (Susan), Thomas (Jessica), Patricia (Jack), and Colleen (Ray). He had a lifetime of wonderful memories with the Kurtz family of Montreal, including Jack and Magdalena, Susan and Jim, Peter and Lois and their families. He is predeceased by his parents Ken and Rita, Laura and Daniel’s mother Macky, and very recently his brother Thomas. Don will be remembered fondly by many cousins, nieces and nephews who were as fond of him as he was of them.

Anyone who knew Don knew he loved football (Go Mustangs!), was an avid reader, enjoyed puttering around his house, shopping for a good deal, talking construction, going for scenic drives with Karen and celebrating birthdays on the actual date! But these all came second to his love for his family who meant the world to him. He has left behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering support for those he loved.

As per Don’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral service at this time and we will celebrate his life together in a small family gathering. Life will never be the same and he will be missed forever.

Condolence from Jeff Stapleton on September 22nd, 2025 11:40 AM

Don attended my Seniors fitness classes for a number of months a few years ago at the Lucan Community Centre. Don showed up one morning and said simply “I need to lose weight and get in better shape”. Indeed, that’s what he proceeded to do – quietly, respecting his limits and always giving 100% effort.
His dry sense of humour made him a favourite of the class. Don kept attending when his body allowed – until there was too much pain to continue.
Those who knew Don loved having him in the classes.
On behalf of the seniors fitness gang, I send our heartfelt condolences.

Don was a wonderful man, so full of light such a joy to be around. I’ll always remember going to his and Mack’s house in Westmount to visit Mike and Laura and baby Jack while they were still in KW. He always welcomed all of us crazy kids with open arms. I’m so sorry to his family and friends for your tremendous loss

Condolence from Rick Kerwin on October 2nd, 2025 5:27 PM

Dear Karen,
I’m so sorry to learn of your loss w Donny’s passing a few wks ago – sending our Kerwin family deepest condolences to you & family and to Laura & Daniel; to all Donny’s siblings, spouses and children & grandchildren; and to many nieces & nephews and cousins & friends.
Donny and his sisters & brothers were such wonderful friends to me & my siblings, where we grew up on 14th Ave in Rosemount, and we had so much fun w the Sears family, Mr & Mrs & the 5 kids!
I remember the camping years of Cubs, Scouts, Ventures at St. Brendan’s w Donny, his dad & brothers; music playing guitars & singing w Donny leading us “The We Five” (including Donny’s sister Patty & my sister Eileen) at the High School coffee house; and sports, especially Donny starring at Newman High football (like his older brothers), where I remember my dad’s summary of one rough & muddy autumn but winning game in the late 1960s, where he remarked he’d never seen one player (Donny) fill in so many positions from defensive lineman & linebacker, to quarterback & running back, to punter & then kicking field-goals and scoring touchdowns – I’ve never forgotten how capable & humble & kind Donny was w his amazing sports & life talents!
Best wishes, our thoughts & our prayers to you Karen and the whole Sears family & friends at this very difficult time.
Rick
