Sandra McKinnon

Sandra passed away on Monday, June 4, 2012 after a valiant fight. She will be remembered for her gorgeous gardens, her grace and enduring beauty.  Sandra has been the central force in our family and will be greatly missed by all.

She leaves behind Jamie, David (Chan) and Christina and her grandchildren Darcy and Lyla, plus extended family and great friends.

Sandra was born in England, raised in India, schooled in Scotland and lived all of her adult life in Canada with her beloved Ed who passed away in 2011.

Friends and family are welcome to attend a service to celebrate Sandra’s life in her garden (72924A Airport Line, Hensall) on Friday, June 8th at 11 AM with Bob Heywood officiating.

Donations to St. Elizabeth Health Care (Huron County) or the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.  Anyone wishing to send flowers, please have them delivered to 72924A Airport Line, Hensall.

My deepest sympathy to Jamie, Chan and families. Also to Cass and Adrian, Nic and Gresh.

I didn’t really get to know Sandra until after Ed passed away.
My daily mail run gave me the opportunity for a quick visit to discuss the weather, gardening and fish pond tips and tricks, while I dropping off her mail.
Always appreciative and gracious. A true fighter, never complaining in her adversity. I am sorry I didn’t have more time to hear her interesting life story.

I don’t even know where to begin when thanking our family and friends. Thank you to the Bayley family. Cass, you have been our Gibraltar. We would be completely lost without you. Ade, your English practicality, love of family and concern for Sandra’s garden for her ceremony, are thoroughly appreciated.
Heather, nothing but hugs and thanks for your bedside manner, and loving friendship during the final days.
And my Christina, my love, you have been essentially a single parent for 8 months and I cannot thank you enough for all your support through this emotional ride. I think we need a holiday baby.
See you all Friday

My Aunt Sandra,

A beautiful young woman in the eyes of a little boy; became an amazing woman, married my favorite uncle Eddie, and they demonstrated to all of us a true life-long loving relationship. Mother to 2 terrific Sons, who have been my life-long friends. A lovely laugh, good-natured all the way along. A Cornerstone of this Amazing Family. Hard to believe, and difficult to manage this reality. Will always be a role model to me for her strength, grace and courage…..God Bless Sandy, as God graced us with you..!

Elegance “a refined quality of gracefulness and good taste”

The first time I met Sandra she was in her beloved garden coordinating a magnificent color array of nature’s beauty. She wore knee high rubber boots, well used garden gloves, pearls and her spectacular diamonds that Uncle Eddie had given her. She was the epitome of elegance and I knew I would always love her.

Rest in peace Sandra.

Love
Heather

Condolence from FLORENCE CALI on June 6th, 2012 12:32 PM

Chan, Jamie and all the family.

My heart felt condolences go out to you at this sad time

I have known dear Sandra for several years now, and always found her to be sincere and very kind, always having a big welcoming smile whenever we met. Having both come from England we had much in common. During one of our many conversations we discovered that we had both worked in the same area at the same time, many year ago.

Her presence will be greatly missed at our family Christmas gatherings where she so enjoyed being with her grandchildren, Darcy and Lyla.

It was a great pleasure to know you Sandra and the memories will live on.

Florence

Chan and Jamie and family
” And She walks in grace and beauty”, is a line in a song that whenever I heard it I always thought of your Mom. What a truly remarkable woman she was. Remembering all the wonderful times and chats I had with her, always making me feel loved and giving me a laugh. Walking me through her gardens, telling me the names of different flowers and plants bringing me back in time to when my Grandfather did the same. So calm, so enriching, we will always have an empty spot in our hearts. Our lives would not have been the same having not known Aunt Sandra!
Love to you both.

Sandra was such an inspiration to me, what a lady she was. Monica my mother in law would take me to visit Sandra & Eddie at their beautiful Toronto home. I especially loved Sandra’s passion for gardening, her gardens were stunning. Seeing her lovely face in her straw hats, she would always tell me how I should protect my face from the sun. Kiska, the German Shepard was a treat as well. Sandra’s kind & generous spirit will be missed by us all. She loved Chan & Jamie so much and was very proud of them and their families. We will miss you Sandra. My condolences to all.

James & Chan

Your mother Sandra was a very special woman and the two of you were her world! Although I was not able to visit with her this past year, I thought of her often and vividly remember the profound love and respect she had for the two of you- Afterall, most conversations we shared began with how proud she was of her boys. You both shared a connection with your “mum” that nobody could match- Allow that bond and memories get you through this difficult time.

Sandra, rest assured that I will always be a best friend to Jamie.
May you rest in peace and my love to Ed.
