I got to know Rhoda through visits at Queensway Retirement Home where my mother, Irene Finkbeiner, was residing on the retirement floor until last October. We had many good conversations and I enjoyed her ready smile and her gentle sense of humour. Whether busy creating afghans or thinking about her writing or enjoying music events at Queensway, she was always “top of her game”. She won’t be forgotten…and the phrase “a life well-lived” comes to mind.

Will miss this special lady.

Rhoda was community ! She connected with all who lived in the area and shared it in her newsy column. There is not a family along the Thames Road or connecting concessions who have not had 70 years of life moments reported in the Exeter Times Advocate. She shared the best and the worst of events and brought everyone closer with her writing. Thames Road -Elimville congregation members who missed Sunday worship could find references to the required scriptures for the week in her column. Those who missed a new birth knew whom to congratulate. If there was a party on the line the community knew what had been celebrated. Rhoda loved to share news of her Grandchildren , and during our chat just a few months ago could still inquire about each of our family members by name. I think of her every time I bake butter tarts– Rhoda’s recipe from the ‘old red’ Thames Road Cookbook. Thank you Rhoda for the memories. You are remembered with a smile, and gratitude for the many years of friendship you and Bill shared with Mom & Dad. Blessings . Lorne & Margaret

So very saddened to hear about Rhoda’s passing. We became friends at Queensway as my mother, Jeanette Turner is a resident there. Had many visits with her as we connected as I have three sons also and always talked about our boys and their families. She was such a great fixture always sitting in her chair knitting with a smile on her face- am going to miss her so much- such a gentle soul and a great lady- my thoughts are with all of you – Marjorie McLean

Please accept our deepest sympathy. Rhoda was a wonderful lady, full of life and love for her family, friends, and community. You could spot that easily in her Times Advocate stories! She kept in touch with all the people she knew and made new friends almost on a daily basis. We are sorry to hear of Rhoda’s passing. How my dad (Bill’s relative) enjoyed visits under the tree on the side lawn of your parents family farm with them. She shared her amazing memory with all. Whether it was a story, a name or something in the me past locally, she was the woman to go too. My visits filled as she helped me put names ( great stories) to our family albums. I will miss her kind spirit, and smile.
